Scientists are seeking ethical permission to produce synthetic sperm cells from a woman's bone marrow tissue after showing that it possible to produce rudimentary sperm cells from male bone-marrow tissue.

The researchers said they had already produced early sperm cells from bone-marrow tissue taken from men. They believe the findings show that it may be possible to restore fertility to men who cannot naturally produce their own sperm.

But the results also raise the prospect of being able to take bone-marrow tissue from women and coaxing the stem cells within the female tissue to develop into sperm cells, said Professor Karim Nayernia of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Creating sperm from women would mean they would only be able to produce daughters because the Y chromosome of male sperm would still be needed to produce sons. The latest research brings the prospect of female-only conception a step closer.

ok first they dont know if it will work, they gotta try it. but it would only produce daughters and as far as i understand it, you are not allowed to pick the gender of your baby (unless for medical reasons) so i cant see this being legal

"Theoretically is it possible". Theoretically. Practice that word. Theoretically time travels are possible as well. And even if women were able and allowed to reproduce without men "interfering" we would only produce females. Not only will it be the end of your "penisvalue", it would mean the end of the human race within a relatively short timespan. A price not even the most ardent manhater would be willing to accept I hope.

would a sperm and egg from the same person contain the same genes and then lead to disformaties like when brothers and sisters have kids? so if it was possible i would imagen it would be banned for the same reason brothers and sisters cant have kids.

Asexual means only one parent. This method requires two, with one of the female partners taking on the male reproductive role. Also, "women" are not a different species.

Deformities are possible, but we have actually no clue as to whether they will actually exist. I'd wait on the results of multiple experiments through the animal food chain before saying that.
