My Government Teacher Bashes Global Warming...

And climate change, whatever the term. It's all political to him (which is surprising since he's libertarian...), and makes fun of me- the only person in the class who gives any credence to science (I attend an evangelical private high school in Ohio...)- and it's starting to piss me off. Usually I can just bury the resentment deep down inside me, and make a mental note of his name in my mental list of "people to kill before I die", but I am finding it more and more difficult as of late.

PLEASE, I plead to you, give me the right words to say to this man. He doesn't have unique arguments, though they are a step above "dinosaur farts". He believes that humans have NO affect on Earth's environment...

And I'd like to prove, as much as I can in an informal, shoddy, fallacy-ridden debate, how wrong he is.

And preferably humiliate him in front of 20 other students.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I thank you.

Just call him an idiot, tell him he is in the minority and if he really wants to say that global worming is a farce he should do the research himself and discover how wrong he is. Place a heavy emphasis on the fact that he is wrong, and if you get in "trouble" for it, walk your way to the principal's office with your head held high (for added infuriating effect, make sure you only wear half your school uniform that day), knowing that you're in the right...

To take a non-scientific approach, I would point out that global warming is not an issue owned by American politics. I'd find it hard for him to continue to take a political stance on it when you repeatedly point out that international scientists - who have no need of a liberal left American agenda - are only saying it for political reasons, especially when they have nothing to gain by doing so.

Note the irony of the fact that many Americans claim that global warming is just a political agenda by extreme liberals just to defend the fact that they only disagree with the premise on political grounds.

Hello friends, one thing about this. I have heard tell of a form of global 'carbon tax' that may be introduced. As to the truth of it, I could not say, but if it be true, then a global warming scare would be ideal to launch it, and it would create a vast revenue for the wealthy elite. On a less serious note, I hope the Captain's farts aren't contributing to global warming...

I suggest meeting him on his own ground. Try not to rebuke his comments on the politics of global warming with science, but similar political opinions. I mean in a certain sense he is right, any movement that controls the flow of hundreds of millions of dollars, the existence of countless foundations, and the jobs of tens of thousands of people is going to have its own share of corruption and politics, but I too hope you humiliate him.

The difficulty is proving what the effects are exactly, but there is no difficulty at all in proving that humanity is affecting the earth's climate. That is, unless you take the ultra-determinist stance that "proof" can only come from experiments in controlled environments. That is, of course, never going to happen in climate science.

Colleagues, let's use reason in our debates, not hyperbole. There was actually a symposium of scientists who said, one after the other, that the data used in 'Inconvenient Truth' was either skewed or incorrectly stated. For both sides here why don't we try to listen to each other's comments, take a moment to research them, then either find concord or meritous refute. Just a thought. And to play the devil's advocate for the minority here, you all do realize that there is a spike in the sun's heat atm, and that this has occured regularly throughout the solar system's life. They don’t, most of the scientists working in the field debate the issue constantly. The problem is that science is highly political due to the fact that scientific research needs a lot of money and that money needs justification If asked whether the problem needs their help of course even if the climatologists are undecided they will say yes anyway!

There is a difference between "practically every" and "every" it is indeed every. That is why, now, only one politician in congress agrees that its a hoax now.

Its not even founded on truth. The people who disagree with global warming being real are the people who disagreed that tobacco companies were hiding the truth and that tobacco was causing health problems in the past. IDK who is still brainwashing these people, just because ONE people disagrees with it now. Even the corporations have given up against the insurmountable proof that it is occurring. I guess brainwashing of the past lingers this long.

What are you, though, to expect from people who laugh in the face of reality and things that have been proven to be true by science. NOBDOY in the field of science disagrees with this just like nobody disagrees with tobacco being harmful.... that is something that is safe to say makes it true.
