Well I was just going to play a Roman campaign for a few turns so I could get the hang of playing as Rome but I ended up continuing it.
At the very start I was able to send my bottom army to defeat Hannibal and defend my city of Messana from the Carthaginians in two turns. Three turns later I took over the two cities near Messana. With my other starting off army in the north I was able to defend my city in the north-west against two full stack Gallic armies.
I was unable to defend one my city of Arminium in the north-east however. Though I lost that city to the Gauls (which resulted in my faction heir dieing as I forgot to take him out of the city) amazingly the city revolted and the Gauls were driven out. So I then had 5 experienced watchmen and 4 experienced Hastatii units along with my full stack army of Hastatii light infantry ready to attack the full stack Gallic army that had taken over my city. I sent them against the much better Gallic army and won.
For the first 3 turns of my campaign I focused on recruiting Hastatii units to make up my main army and building traders for as many cities as I could. Fifteen turns later I find myself beginning my war with Germania and finishing off the once might Gauls who have 4-5 cities remaining.
I have to admit I'm not playing house rules so I’m guessing I wouldn't be able to achieve all of this so easily or at all.... Can someone maybe take a look at my saved file and tell me what they think? Im using v6.3 of SPQR. Here's the link - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=L1H1Q5BO
