Error Message query- help please!

I'm trying to remove the Sarmatians and the Sassanids from Descr_Strat. I have got them so that they are only mentioned in the nonplayable section at the top - nowhere else are they mentioned in descr_strat any more (the regions they owned have been assigned to other factions and the faction_creator entry set to someone else).

So far so good, but if I comment out their entry in the nonplayable section I get the following error:

Regions_DB;; default faction for region(x) isn't present in the descr_strat.txt file

where x = 31 for the sassanids and 0 for the sarmations.

Any idea how to fix it? or even whether I have to?

the problem isn't in desc_strat - because you have removed them from descr_strat you also have to remove them from default faction line in descr_regions.txt - yes you either need to fix that or don't comment them out of descr_strat but make them dead_until_resurrected in their faction section.

By the by (and this I am sure is a real noob question) - if I get a straight CTD (ie. no errors logged even though I have show error on) does it write to an error file somewhere what has happened?

Salvor is absolutely right.

When I hear someone say "I've changed this file and this file and this file and now it won't work" then I tell them the same thing as I do careless installers : Reinstall RTW and start again - it'll be quicker

Remember also to delete map.rwm because if you do not it may mask an error that is then harder later to find as it crops up when map.rwm is regenerated. Anything to do with maps, regions, resources or the campaign generally - delete map.rwm first!

I did that today - was adding in a special resource to trigger a wonder and just couldn't get it to work. Checked everything and all the files were updated correctly and all matched. Tried it again, still didn't work.

Went and made pizza dough.

Came back, took one look and went ' - didn't delete the map file'. After that everything was fine

Maybe making the pizza dough did it? You'll need to work back and check if it was that or the deleting of the map.rwm file.
