    Default Unit roster for the Celtic factions

    It'd be good to get some agreement on what units we should have on the celtic faction roster and some idea of what they should look like, whether it's existing units in RTW or pictures from Osprey, etc or models off miniatures sites.. Maybe someone would like to head this up? Cherry? Someone else?

    Which Celtic faction? We have three of them. Or do you mean you want to coordinate all 3 of them at the same time? That might make sense since they should share some units.

    Yes I mean coordinate them. The only way that we can fit in all the stuff we want to and not waste a load of time redoing stuff that we could have done earlier is by thinking about ten steps ahead.....agree faction unit rosters, work out how these are going to be made into reality through modelling, what faction variations there might be, etc. Also what the unit stats should be, what weapons they might have and so on.

    To give examples - one celtic unit might have a certain helmet for the belgae and arverni but different for Boii and Dacians, or the same unit might be used with sword for Arverni and Belgae but axes for Cimbri. All this is now possible because of multimodelling stuff....see the new Carthaginian / Iberian generals in the preview thread or the cataphracts in Antiochus' thread for examples of the same model being used with diferent textures to make changes to helmets.

    This probably ought also to apply to the Cimbri and some of the Celtiberian stuff as well as some of the more germanic/celtic Dacians.

    Also which units should go to the free peoples and rebels. This is really a full time job, but it would make my life so much easier, and get the mod out faster. With skinning a lot of time is spent doing the research into what colours, weapons, helmets, etc someone ought to have - so much easier when it's there in front of you.

    In fact potentially it's a few jobs!

    Yes I mean coordinate them.
    I've been thinking the same thing myself; it's really the only way to make sure the factions are A) balanced, B) historically accurate, and C) different enough from each other to offer a unique playing experience.

    I just picked up several books on the Celts with just this objective, so I'm happy to coordinate this. Just give me some time to read and start compiling notes. You've got enough on your plate to keep you busy for a couple weeks, don't you?

    Cherry, what you could do is simply take this over. Using the existing units, and your great pictures, come up with first a list of what each one has top to bottom. Then put a picture to a unit. Insert a new one where you think it could be.....but remember it most likely has to be shared. So a like unit elesewhere. Or just say a new skin on this existing unit would be fine. Whatever. With Arverni, Belgae and Boii being basic Celts, I've seen how Tone is using new models to make units look so different you'd have no idea they are using the same slot! He totally fooled me last nite..(and I know he likes it).

    Post the lists and we can discuss the Yea's or Nay's......it would help me a lot too when it comes to putting them in the game.

    It'll take a few weeks but I'll get started. I'll also look at the EB and RTR Gallic factions to see how well those rosters work.

    Great - I'll try and get these chieftains (at least 4 different helmets - bird, horns, furry crest and pointed blade) finished in the meantime, which will provide some useful material for celtic warriors anyway.

    What would be really helpful also would be if you can to upload pictures with details like celtic designs, brooches, buckles. All that sort of thing. Again really helps.
