Default [M2TW AAR] Novgorod - NeoRussia - The Great Journey

Taking heed of the great notion of Novogrodian migration, I decided to not transport my faction to the British Isles, but the the Mediterranean. My reasoning is as follows:

See, the Novogrods (my faction's populace) are tired of being confused as Russians. They are a perfectly able people, but resent the land they live on for their common misconception. Resenting the whole of Eastern Europe, they hold a grand council of all the nobles and elders of the land to come for a great convocation. Most decide to pack up, and move out... on the Great Journey.

Many years pass on their voyage to the Promised Land... and the memory of their home drifts off into myth and legend. Finally, they arrive at an island called Corsica, near the large castle of Cagliari . Here they decide to settle. However, the Sicilians have plans for that isle as well. Truly the Christian nation of Sicily will not lay harm onto another Christian brother?

The Migrators siege the fortification, and win a glorious victory! (which IMHO should be the next step above "Heroic", but wtvr)

But those worthless cur, the Sicilians, siege our own settlement right after we claim it as rightfully ours!

Our princess escapes, and pleads with the Catholic Pope to intervene. The ships take refuge behind the Papal Territorial waters. Surely the Sicilians will be wary and keep their distance...

The Sicilians attack with two, well-trained, elite armies of vile dogs! How can we survive such a perilous condition!?

Our King dies of disease in the siege. A modest death in troubling times. Perhaps the Migrators will give up all hope...

We emerge victorious! Our neighbors shall kneel at the passion of the Migrator's valour!

The princess, finding the Pope a spineless whimp, rushes to the Sicilian capital to sue for peace. She pleads, and offers some valuable territory in the north...

Hooray! 54 years after they embarked on their Great Journey, the Migrators have settled in the Promised Land. This marks the start of a great new Empire!

    More to come...

*EDIT*- BTW, why does the "Faction Leader Dead" thing say that my leader might go to purgatory? Don't Orthodox Christians not believe in the existence of purgatory?...

Turns fly when you only have one settlement, so I'll have another 30-turn report comin' up tonight.

I forgot to post the pic, but the Sicilians had a decent army, so I was JUMPING for joy when I realized I was going to win... But it was desperate up until the last moment...

I'll give you guys a teaser: A Papal Alliance turns foul...

That's why I chose Russia, with possibly the worst selection of units, and Cagliari, right next to the hyper-aggressive Italian factions in 1.2.

I purposefully wanted to have a fight for my life. And I promise you, it will be rewarding to watch.

You're right Ronnec, Orthodox don't believe in Purgatory (at least, it's not an official doctrine; there have been some Orthodox, particularly in Eastern Europe in the 19th century, who have believed in Purgatory, but it's really not widespread and/or important theologically, and doesn't really happen anymore). That's just laziness on CA's part - you don't think that they actually researched the Middle Ages, do you?

Sorry guys, I can't finish this campaign. The papacy's gone wild, and it's frankly unplayable.

It's fun just surviving, but the papacy has conquered some 20 territories in 40 turns. I just can't go on against this.

I think the overlying problem of doing what I was doing in 1.2 is that the Papacy goes absolutely nutso for aggression, especially when you take Corsica or Sardinia. It's really pissing me off, and until it's fixed, I can't continue.

    Sorry.

I'll pick it up again when/if the official 1.2 patch fixes the OMFGSUPERPOPE suckiness.

Alright, after tearing apart my computer for 2 days, I found the saves. HOWEVER, the tga's are lost.

So what I'm going to do is tell you what DID happen, and then RESTART from where I previously left off. I am going to make sure that I handle this as aggressively as possible, because otherwise I will fail (like I did in my campaign). SO, onto the story:

Sicily would siege me on and off because the AI was freaking out. The Papacy would be at constant war with me, ceasefire-ing every now and then. I kicked the sicilians ass, and I kicked the Papacy's ass, but unfortunately I lost 2 family members in one defense (an EPIC battle, I think I had like 1:5 odds...), and then the last faction heir in a desperate attempt to take Adjaccio. With only my 56yo king left, I slowly let the turns run out until he was 61, when the Papacy sieged my only settlement, and won. But I gave 'em one hell of a fight.

So yes, that was the first time EVAR that I lost. Evar. But I had to cripple myself to do it.

    It was worth it.

Anyways, I'll restart where we left off, and make SURE not to lose 3 of my king's sons to battle. I NEED to kick the Papacy's ass, and to do that I'll need to ally with someone, just to gain a foothold.

Honestly, the diplomacy is still trash in 1.2, and it annoys me. In some ways it's worse (OMFGSUPERPOPE's).
