Default Today is Holocaust Remembrance Day: What Have People Learned?

today is holocasut remembrancee day so i beleive this is an appropriate topic. Has anyone really learned from the holocaust? is it being misused? do people only know a little about it?:hmmm:

many people claim israel is repeating the holocaust. yet, these people need to look at history and more easily look at any textbook.this makes me believe people only know a little about it.

has anyone really learned from the holocaust? there are still genocides today yet, nobody does anything to stop it. i look around in my neighborhood there is only one building that has a "save darfur" sign. a synagogue. no other place has even a sign . this deeply worries me that no one has learned anything from the holocaust. if they had there would be signs everywhere in my neighborhood that say "save darfur".

am i alone in my beliefs?hopefully i am not. the only way to have a better world is to learn from the past.

Oh, I don't think that we as a world really learned anything from it. Sure, everyone pays it lip service, but "never again" is not really anywhere but the speeches. At the end of the day, no one really wants to be the one footing the bill for peacekeeping troops, and no one wants to interfere in a warring nation where one group is genocide the other.

I don't think anyone that needs to learn the lessons has learned them. All us sane people get it; discrimination against other people's beliefs is horrible. But that doesn't stop the people who want to kill those people from doing it. They are the ones who are not sane, and no amount of memorials will help them.
There have been many genocides in the past decade, but the people who can stop it don't seem to care. That's most of us; the people living in the wealthy powerful nations with stable governments. But since genocides in African countries does not affect our economy very much, or our safety, the politicians don't focus on it. They don't lose anything from not getting involved, because the voters don't pay attention. Now, I'd love to kick my government in the ass and tell them to get back to peacekeeping like they did in the past decades and stop sleeping, but I can't vote, and no one else seems too concerned about places like Darfur.

Yes let us all remember all of those that died in that horrible event, including alot of my family members. I am surprised that there was not more mention of this in the media, but I can understand what with all of that stuff happening at VT.

Millions of people are dying in Africa in a genocide. What have we learned? Obviously not much.

What have we learned as a result of the holocaust?
    Absolutely nothing.
The Jews got a few lessons in the need for a state to protect them out of the whole affair, and lawyers and defendants alike learned that "I was just following orders" is apparently not a valid defense.
The rest of us have learned nothing due to the holocaust.
First world men have become more learned only as a result of widespread media coverage of everything and anything you could possibly think of.

    its just the official one.

luckily im not alone in thinking most people havent learned much. lawyers and jews. thats it.im amazed at how over one million catholics died in the holocaust yet this current pope has done nothing to stop genocide. hes not the only one either. very few people have done anything to stop it. sadly, its not easy in the modern day to stop a genocide. america has an "agreement" with many of these nations such as sudan. they give bush terrorists he turns his back on the people of darfur. so america will not do anything but people in other countries can.

For me the lesson of holocaust is one of freedom of speech, at least when applied to our society today.

After world war II Germans of Auswitzch were shown the camp. Many genuinely did not know what was happening. They couldn't talk about it, so they didn't know. The 'pirates' of the German cities, some as young as fourteen were hung for resisting the Nazi's policies. The holocaust could have avoided had Germans been able to speak their minds.

Today holocaust denial needs this freedom of speech, rather than have lingering hatreds cultivated in secret. Freedom of speech subtlely mocks this notion and destroys it.

I've learned that instead of remembering the unjust extermination of millions of Jews and other "misfits" according to the Nazi ideology all over the world, it's mostly used by the modern state of Israel and its lobby as a political weapon of persuasion.
What has the world learned? That very much depends on which part of the world one was brought up in.

I learned that the numbers are outrageously exagerated. I learned that if anyone questions this, or any details of the event, they get defamed and jailed. I learned that this 'holocaust industry' is a huge guilt card being flashed before the rest of the world and more and more people are getting fed up with it. I learned that more people perished in the Soviet gulags, in Mao's rebellion and in Japan's empire interests. I learned that jews are the most prosperous peoples on earth, and have very racist undertones in both their religion and their extreme nationalism.
Today was beautiful day, with slight clouds and blue skies. The worlds people are not stupid, they don't need you to remind us what they have or have not learned.
