Which Faction in TLR is the Most Challenging To Play?

Just wanted to take an informal survey to see which factions are the most challenging or the most fun to play in TLR. I will most likely start a new campaign for 1.98 so let me know which factions you guys have enjoyed the most or found the biggest challenge.

Currently I'm torn between trying Scotland, or Venice

I don't know in all honesty, I usually play as the English. I've started anew with Portugal, and it's certainly interesting. The Spanish peninsula is huge and you start with minimal resources compared to the Moors & Spanish. It seems quite tough!

Scotland and Portugal are easily the "most hard" (although certainly no faction is difficult enough that a player can't win).

Other factions which are in the middle, I would argue, are HRE (dead in the center of everyone), Denmark is in the middle difficulty range, perhaps Milan, the Arab factions end up going to war with most of Europe and face the bulk of the Mongols force, Hungary is also in a less-than-favorable position as well.

Scotland and Portugal for sure.

For your original post, Venice is very easy - don't consider it if you're looking for a difficult faction.

I think one of the central factions can be the most exciting to play.

More chance of interaction and wars that way. Milan would probably be a good candidate.

Scotland for instance only has to deal with England.

Denmark definitely provided a good challenge, I have finnaly eaten up France and Germany almost, and it took me till about 1270.

If I were to choose an eastern faction can you recommend one.

That's a very good question. I am trying Hungary for the first time which is cool. But I've played a whole host of different factions. I found the islamic factions to be amongst the most difficult simply because they are so boring in comparison to their catholic neighbours. It also depends on difficultly level of course. It's almost as if CA couldnt be bothered with the Moors/Turks and Egypt and left them till last. Which is a shame - but hopefully the modders can sort that with new skins and such.

I found Denmark quite a challenge and funnily enough Venice too, although that is debatable.

Well i just had to restart a Moorish Campaign because everyone Crusaded agents me from the start

Hehe Moors may have hard time keeping Iberia, but they should be relatively safe in Africa.

What is your opinion on the Russians are they challenging and to they provide a decent array of units??? I would like to play them and take over the east so as to be waiting for the arrival of the Mongols

Not too much of a challenge if you can keep the polish at bay. I'm not particularly fond of their unit selection either but they do have 1 new one.

The mongols still tend to stay closer to the mid east right now. But they are quite destructive.

Definately a priority. I want to equialize the East factions since they are pretty boring right now.

Have anyone had any experience with the Baseloi ton Romanoi? I've just began to play them and i feel like im in the middle of everything, hated by everyone! Except Russia

As for now I play as Poland,because i am from Poland lol and always it has neighbors from all sides.Poland had hard times in history because of that.In game it depends.Germans from the west,Danish from the northwest,Hungary from the south,Russians from the all east side.I am not counting rebels because they never attack :/.In vanilla game it was really hard to play as Poland when sometimes 3 countries attacked.OMG.

hehe after this game i now clearly understand this hard/troublesome placing of my country.
