I have searched the forums for a thread like this, but so far nothing.

What is your favourite album of all time? I'm just curious to see the prefernces of the people here. I would like to hear your favourite, and the reasons why.

My favourite is Sticky Fingers, By The Rolling Stones.

It was the first Stones record I ever heard, listening to it on vinyl with my dad. I just love the songs, the musicianship, the lyrics, and it contains so many classics, like Brown Sugar, Wild Horses, and Can't You Hear Me Knocking, alongside relatively unknown Stones greats, such as Dead Flowers (My fave), *****, and Sway. I'm actually listening to it right now (on vinyl no less).

    So, do tell!

    Ooh, good thread!

I think my favorite album would either be Adore by the Smashing Pumpkins or This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About by Modest Mouse.

Adore was really how I got into the music I am into today. My father got it when it first came out, I believe I was in 2nd or 3rd grade at the time, and I loved it. The songs are so beautiful, the melodies....a truly great effort. I haven't listened to it in ages but it's still great.

Long Drive, because I think it's the best MM release. I love the numerous parts of the album where it's just guitars playing away. It's so peaceful and it's great music to chill to, to fall alseep to, even to move to. It has Dramamine, which is one of my favourite tracks.

If I had to choose I'd choose Drive.

As I properly read the OP I shall vote only a single as that is what Album means and not Plural. I Vote 4 Sticks (Led Zep IIII)!!! It is a difficult choice but that album always puts a smile on my face!

    Top 5:

In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel

If Jeff Magnum sounded a bit more like Carl Wilson, I'd have not doubt that its the greatest album of all time.

The Gay Parade - Of Montreal

Some of the catchiest, melodolic and hookiest stuff ever put on a CD. Period

Magical Mystery Tour - The Beatles

I think this album has some of the greatest production and arrangements of all time. What would Strawberry Feilds or I Am the Walrus be without those wonderful arrangements?

Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys

The most gorgeous album in the unviverse. The only song that comes close to matching the beauty of "God Only Knows" is Do You Realize.

    Armchair Apocryhpa - Andrew Bird

Some of the most intelligent and well written music I've ever heard, and defintly the number one contender for best album of the year thus far.
