    Default Historical Formations in SPQR

Hi all i tried to reinact some of Hannibals battles against rome on various custom battkes using his tactics such as the "Crescent" or "Bow" however they do not seem to work as however often i try my infantry core always routs because my cavalry seems to do little against them in their famous
    rear charge

ps love the mod and am eager for 6.3!!

This is difficult - if AI plays Romans they are not disciplined and this is main problem.
However it is possible to engage legion from the front by light inf, pull them ahead and then smash by heavy infantry from the sides. If only your general is multi-star commander of high bonus when fighting against Romans (preferably named Hannibal...)
BTW, formations for Carthaginians could be improved.

Yea, this is a good MOD and great when you play as Romans, but unfortunately there isn't a script yet that creates discipline and over rights Army formations and AI tactics for just the Romans, make them fight like real romans and not just like Barbarian Factions.

Greek or Macedonian style of warfare is great. Same for Hannibal.
Imagine you are surrounded by legions in Italy, cut off from reinforcements, victorious but still far from breaking Roman defence. Unless you are heroic or clear in your victories - the Romans gets stronger... So what tactics and formation would you apply to win against Roman pila, shields and spears?

don't think the romans get a chance to get too strong if controlled by the AI... I'd love to see a cannae reenactment in SPQR though!

If you wish to reenact Hannibals famous battle of Canae, then what you must do is set your formation up as so:

-Iberian infantry in the center on guard mode
-Libyan spearmen or Sacred Band on the flanks with Phalanx off and aggressive stance
-Missle Cavalry coupled with Heavy Cavalry to the flanks, then smash into the back
-Instead of Archers, have Javilen men

thanx master adnin until now i was using archers not javelin men so thanx for the historical correction- i confess i know little....

yes it works better now since i reinstalled and repatched the game it seems that i must have had some file changed somewhere...

the cavalry rear charge now works to an astounding effect when timed right and the iberian centre now longer collapses under roman might!!!

Personally tho i love rome too much to change to any other faction in a campaign, but i like a bit more variety in custom battles
