    Default What is this thing??

I stumbled onto this web page yesterday. I have to admit I'm curious, this thing is bizarre! Russian soldiers came across it on the Sakhalin shoreline. I dunno, I just love this kinda stuff hehe.

This creature was found by Russian soldiers on Sakhalin shoreline. Sakhalin area is situated near to Japan, it’s the most eastern part of Russia, almost 5000 miles to East from Moscow (Russia is huge). People don’t know who is it. According to the bones and teeth - it is not a fish. According to its skeleton - it’s not a crocodile or alligator. It has a skin with hair or fur. It has been said that it was taken by Russian special services for in-depth studies, and we are lucky that people who encountered it first made those photos before it was brought away.
    http://www.englishrussia.com/?p=251 More photos.

Any theories on what this might be? It's quite possible its just a normal creature of some sort that had decomposed and took on a strange appearance, but who knows.

Check the link above for a lot more photos.

I'd say bear, but I'm not sure. I'm trying to look at the jaw for a reference.

On the shoreline? Probably some sort of whale or sealion, or something. Although, the head is a bit odd, even if it is a cetacean.

Big and scary if it were alive, that's what it is.

i say its on of those ancient whales, as they did used to have fur and the skeleton does resemble it a bit

Definitely a globster of a thing, but what the skeleton is from is a good question...

This is the third weird creature from the Japan area I've heard of in a short time. First it was the giant squid (video), then the frill shark (video), then this. It looks like it's wearing clothes - is that remnants of skin and hair? Ick. Well, it'll be interesting to find out what it is. Definitely looks whale/cetacean though. Notice how the nostrils are way up on the forehead, not on front.

Could be millions years old. Stuck in ice and because of global warming it got loose and drifted onto the shore.

Ooooh, I just politicized it. Another great discovery is made for global warming.

Umm, looks like a beluga whale skeleton in a bad state of decomp.

Check out the 2nd photo on the right on this page:

Yeah the skull does look very similar, but what about the fur/hair?

Wow, great find. It shows just how little we know about the world. Whatever it is, looks like its something we thought was extinct.

Jeez, I just looked at those other pics, and I take back what I said about it possibly being a bear. The rest of the body definitely points to something along the lines of a whale...but what?

Oh that. Relax, it's just a bit of Ctulhu's flesh. He must have been harmed in a fight. Poor thing.

I second the opinion that its a Beluga in decomp.

It seems the mystery was solved quite some time ago.

Enough of the skull and other parts of the skeleton are visible to say that it is definitely a small-toothed whale, and almost certainly a beluga whale. The skull shape, dentition, and other details are all consistent with a large beluga whale. Shown here is a photograph of a beluga whale skull for comparison. Any differences are readily accounted for by the likelihood that the carcass represents an old, robust individual whose teeth are worn and broken (and possibly damaged after death). The neck is also short, and there are no hind flippers visible to suggest a plesiosaur. The dark "hair" undoubtely represents decayed flesh, which typically becomes darker and fibrous as it decomposes.
I was looking for pictures of Beluga skeletons to compare when I stumbled across this site!

Yeah, at least we know what it is now. Good job on solving our little mystery Fuzz.

This is clearly a secret goverment experiment that escaped and was killed by the soliders who 'found' it

Or it could just be a Whale.
