    Hi Rio,
great idea to make a specific thread for campaign pics. infos and stories.
I will post them here for my Saxons campaign to show how I appreciate and enjoy your mod. I am proud to see my name (apologize if I saw only now) as game tester... really...!!!
I started Saxons Campaign (Rio IV + Expansion + Addons + 463 expanded) and I allowed myself to change descr_sm_factions (second faction colour same as first) because I don't like borders (as WRE and ERE in your mod) and also I allowed myself to change recruitment time to 0 time for all (that means huge enemies to fight with from the beginning and always...). The descr_sm_factions is not so fundamental, just graphic change, but recruitment time to 0 is a change that maybe is not due to serious and trusted game tester... what do you think about?
Ready to come back to standard recruitment time (absolutely not a problem), but I would appreciate very much your comments to my change to 0 recruitment time...
Whatever your comments on that I will post story of my Saxon campaign here with pics to show tactical and battle map updates.
Hear you on next (soon) update...

Battle of Pannonhalma 504 AD (Present day Hungary)

Five years ago the Frankish Navy started raiding along the Adriatic, the ERE was in the process of raising an Army to attack Segestica when a naval engagement took place. The ERE navy sank an entire Frankish fleet. Diplomats came and sued for peace but we demanded the surrender of the city of Segestica in return and they complied.

An uneasy peace ensued and there was a period of stalemate between the Frankish fleet remaining outside the harbor of Segestica and the Roman ships in the vicinity. To avoid further conflict, all but a few of the Roman ships pulled back. Shortly thereafter, the Frankish fleet blockaded Segestica, re-igniting the war. A Roman fleet 241 strong attacked the Frankish fleet 171 strong and drove them off with heavy losses. 89 pursued the remaining Frankish 64 and the entire Roman fleet was sunk. Then a fleet 180 strong attacked the Frankish 51 and were also sunk with two Roman generals aboard -- there deaths were a relief -- the two of them had been removed from governorships due to corruption. Finally, 4 months later, a Roman force of 90 caught the remaining Frankish 28 and sunk with them probably the greatest living admiral, may the Franks remember him well because I didn't catch his name. I was too concerned with what was left of my Adriatic fleet as they limped home victorious with 54 left.

The Franks ravaged our Adriatic fleet and a fine young general from the East of the East Roman Empire, named Zeno Seneca, would try to take the war to them at Carnuntum. He was young and his experience was limited to crushing peasant rebellions in Iran. Zeno commanded much of the forces that had remained in Segestica when the Franks handed it over five years before. This force included a number of siege weapons. He marched his force through the mountain pass and camped in the woods, to perhaps ambush nearby Frankish forces. This already was a sign of inexperience, for his siege weapons were useless in the dense forest. The Frankish Captain Aia spied his position thus discovering the ambush and realizing this was an inexperience general, he engaged Zeno in the forest with a large and highly seasoned group of veteran foot soldiers.

Zeno separated his forces leaving clergy and cavalry behind to thwart any sneak attack on the siege equipment and then 8 legionary cohorts, 3 sagittari, and 2 Iron Dragons with him into the woods to engage the Franks. He took

Zeno engaged the enemy with a foolhardy aggressiveness. The Frankish center withstood volleys of flaming arrows, while the left flank shrank before the Iron Dragons.

The blistering attack on the center continued but the Franks held on long enough for the main bulk of the army to reform in a better position to the rear. They only caved in when Zeno ordered an infantry charge, but by then they had done their job. The tenacity of these warriors and the tactical savvy of their General should have tipped Zeno off to the fact that he was not dealing with peasants.

The charging Romans ran right into the formidable Frankish second line.

The impetuous Zeno, still not aware that he was dealing with a highly disciplined and complex military force, charged right into the center of the line, and expected them to break like peasants.

    But they pushed back.

Mighty warriors jumped at the Romans with swords flashing

Zeno blew his horn, trying to get the unit of Iron Dragons, that was now well in the rear of the enemy, still pursuing the left flank, to turn about and hit them from the rear. In the meantime, he took half of his guard and tried surround the Franks himself, but they were too many and too strong. He had himself become surrounded. (he is in the picture to the back on the right)

As he looked across the melee, he saw his lieutenant, Alexandros, being thrown from his horse and falling onto the spear of the horseman behind him. It pierced his neck and he died instantly.

Zeno cried out in horror, which only increased as a Frankish warrior slashed at him, cutting his left leg clean off at the knee. He fell from his mount vomiting on himself in agony as the enemy mashed his skull to bits with bloodied axes.

Just then, a moment too late for Zeno, the Iron Dragons came galloping into the fray from the rear.

    The Franks gallantly fought on.

Roman cavalry reserves swept in from the flanks and soon the Franks were being hacked and stabbed from all sides.

Seeing that he was doomed, the Frankish General, Captain Aia, calmly turned to relieve himself on his favorite tree. He believed that his spirit resided in his urine and he was releasing his spirit before his body died.* He entered the battle in a rage but was stabbed in the face before he could do much. He stumbled about, blinded by blood and was impaled by a spear that went clear through his chest out the other side.

The Franks fought on but their numbers were now dwindling.

They fled and were run down. Some got away but the lumbering soldiers in heavy armor were slaughtered.

Zeno's loss was taken in stride. His mashed remains were cremated and he was honored as a hero of Rome. The Emperor missed him mostly because he was a good administrator. Obviously, he wasn't a very good general. Or was he? The Romans lost one general and about 3000 men. The Franks, on the other hand, lost 28,000 of there best soldiers.** The result of Zeno's death is that the army would be slowed until a replacement general could arrive to lead them. This would also give Roman spies more time to infiltrate Carnuntum. But the result for the Franks maybe that their city is now practically unguarded. Since the new general doesn't have the knack for management that Zeno did, the orders now called for completely destroying the city, slaughtering all it's inhabitants and abandoning it. Will they succeed?

    * I needed a story behind the picture that flashed when Captain Aia was killed. (How did he die, running into a tree?)
** I always double the numbers and multiply them by ten.

Glad you liked it! I had to do some creative thinking to make sense of some of the screenshots in this one too.

I've decided to use thumbnails because full picks slow up the load time of the page, let me know which format you prefer. (The thumbs didn't work -- were linked to spammy pages.)

With Zeno dead, the army camped along the Danube waiting for the replacement to show up. The replacement was a young man from Athens by the name of Kaeso Rupilius. He was young and practically unknown. With an army of about 25,000, with heavy siege equipment, they mauled the light Frankish contigent of about 2000 that they encountered upon decampment. Probably, the remanants of the Army Zeno faced. However when they reached Posny to take the road south to Carnuntum, the lookouts ran into a massive force: over 37,000 strong and comprised of seasoned Roman-style Frankish units with about 3,200 horse.

Rupilius scouted the area for a place to make a stand and as luck would have it, he chanced up a natural stone fortress. Indeed, it would seem the battle had already been won with this shooting gallery at his disposal. He set up his heavy artilery and formed a defensive perimeter with the cavalry on up on the hill to his left flank and hiding in the woods to his right.

The first barrage from the onagers scored a direct hit on the Frankish general's head, making a mess of him.

His horsemen, undaunted, drove around the sheer cliffs of stone, charged uphill and slammed into Rupilius' left flank. But were driven back by the stalwart Romans. The Roman Cavalry up the hill swept down to engage them as they fled but themselves were caught in a sea footsoldiers and were cut up pretty bad. One whole Roman cavalry unit was lost.

On the right flank, the Frankish infantry tried to use the cliffs to cover their advance, but to no avail. Missles rained down upon them and they could not advance. Meanwhile, the Roman Cavalry in the woods on the right flank, were able to get past the enemy and cut down Frankish reserve units.

Probably one of the most famous incidents of the battle, which led to the famous saying, like "Like a Frank leading Romans," occured when, seeing that the Franks could not advance on the right, Rupilius ordered his right to fold out and advance down the hill. Admist the hellish confusion of a hailstorm of missles, a Frankish captain mistook the advancing Romans for his own men and ran up to them and started barking orders. Before he even knew it, he'd been stabbed in the chest and was falling over dead. Words were still coming out of his mouth when he hit the ground. The Romans unceremoniously marched right over his corpse.

Meanwhile, on the left, things got tough again as a renewed and fresh Frankish charge (a Frankish charge, mind you, not the Frankish Charge) threatened break through and ravage the machines raining death down upon the host of the Franks. Rupilius himself counter-charged and smashed the Franks off their mounts. With a mighty war cry, he drive the whole lot of them down the hill harried by burning shafts of doom.

Back on the right flank, the Romans soon discovered that the Frankish captain could not find his troops because they were hiding in the woods. They sprang out in a rage and bitter fighting errupted. But alas, the remains of the battered Roman cavalry that had started the battle on the left flank, had reformed on the right and it now plowed forth to crush the Frankish infantry on the right and drive them away.

Simultaeneously, Rupilius ordered a full charge on the right and the Romans cleared the hill, leaving carnage in their wake. Out of the 37,520 warriors who assaulted that Mound of the Death, as the Franks call it in their tongue, only 620 escaped. From the original 25,420 Romans on that rock, 22,780 were left standing proud, with the new hero of the Polis, Kaeso Rupilius. Would his luck hold as he avanced onto Carnuntum?

THE STORY OF MEN OF SEAX

drawn from Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum, by Venerable Bede, the Father of English history(freely drawn… really freely… but really really freely freely)

I am Octha, noble Saxon warrior, chosen heir of our leader Hengist, Bretwalda of Saxons.

I decided to tell you the story of my people in their task to become strongest, bravest and richest in the known world.
What is occurring now come from far beyond in the past, from tumultuous and dark ages, when usurpers were proclaimed everywhere in the less and less powerless and divided Roman Empire. The last in Britannia, Constantine III, crossed with the army into Gaul; with its frontiers weakened, Britannia suffered devastating raids from Picts and Scots. There was further devastation and, in AD 410, the emperor Honorius wrote to the civitates of Britannia to look to their own defense, ending definitively the Roman rule. For the next several decades, the native Britons had to fend for themselves against increasing Picts incursions. It was, in AD 449, after one of the most devastating raids that Vortigen, Romanized Briton leader of Kingdom of Kent, called my father Hengist and his cousin Horsa to fight Picts. Executed their quest, they asked for lands where to establish own people in peace, but Vortigen refused, murdered Horsa and the war started.
We captured Ceintii and Axel, but a decade of war taxed to the limit our economy, and the victory seems to move more and more away. So I convinced my father Hengist to change our campaign strategy, because 14 years ago when he and Horsa were called by Vortigen, they had to fight against untrained and unorganized hordes of Picts, but now we deal with Romano British with their proved tactics and well trained and disciplined troops.

Winter is approaching and I thought to rest until Spring, training troops and increase economy income. But last battle against Romano British for Londinium left armies exhausted and Angli took advantage capturing the city, cutting our supply lines with Axel, that cannot now be supplied unless by dangerous sea and navigating close to the Romano British city of Icenorum. People in Axel become more and more unhappy and the risk is to lose this town too, then to be soon pushed out from Britannia. To pacify Axel I put tax rate to low and sold shipwright, increasing treasury, allowing to enlist 2 Hunters for defense and talk out population of rioting, and a diplomat to look for trades and income. I heard that my father Hengist is doing same in Vicus Saxones building also Ull temple, same as in Ceintii and Axel. In Ceintii I enlisted 4 Hunters for the fighting armies that I am organizing with the many and many warriors driven here in Britannia by promises of rich lands and dreams of glory. I have enough warriors to leave Ceorlas to defend cities and enlist 6 Duguthas, 4 Gesithas and 2 Heortgeneats for one army and 5 Duguthas and 4 Gesithas for the second, this acting as guard to Romano British and troops supply for the first army. I sent all armies to borders close to Londinium, discovering a Romano British army, and start siege of this city, even if winter is very close.

Winter. A very cold winter, that is deeply trying out my warriors. Even my economy is going down. A very bad situation. The Romano British army, maybe worried by the closeness of my armies left Londinium to Axel, leaving my most experienced army, filled now with two Hunters, to start the siege of Londinium. I heard that 4 new Saxon units landed in the south, part of them joined my second army, that now filled also with 2 Hunters become stronger and maybe I can drive it to Icenorum and siege it… Anyway it is future, but on last years I have learned that little steps strategy have better issues and it is more safe.

Now, to avoid that debts made slow too much down my economy, my first fighting army is building siege machine and quickly attack Londinium leaded by new family member Odovacar.

Well. I was right to trust Odovacar: he is young but skilled commander… and a trusted friend. He followed closely my orders, exterminating population and looting money for 17.000 denarii, so my treasury is now refilled and I can think what to build to grow in economy, and I will do improving farming and mine in Londinium.

By the way I don’t want to give rest to Odovacar, so I ordered him to leave Londinium, exploring South britannia till Caerwent. In the mean time I ordered to the other army to siege Icenorum, because I know that its army left and inside there is only a small garrison, and I specified to hurry. I reported others units landing; to supply all those unit could be a problem, but I need warriors!

I am really disappointed by Captain Gundamar. He preferred to offer surrender to Icenorum’s garrison waiting for reply, instead to attack. So a Romano British army came back attacking him while outside. I suggested him to come back on his shield if he will fail to capture Icenorum…
This is what Captain Gundamar reported me about the fight outside Icenorum.

He lined up Duguthas in a single row, with Gesithas on both flanks and Hunters rear to weaken coming enemy with a rain of arrows. Duguthas stayed firm waiting the impact with charging infantry, while Hunters launched their arrows.
He said that anyway Hunters continued to fire to infantry, instead to take care of enemy Sagittarii, leaving our troops under their fire, and even seems that someone of my warriors died by friendly fire…

It was an heavy charge by enemy units on the center of the army, and Duguthas had to back off a little bit, afraid by Hunters’ fire too…

… and because infantry units were supported in the charge by their Mormaers heavy cavalry. Captain Gundamar saw that Duguthas line waved under the enemy strenght, so to help them and divide enemy, he ordered to Gesithas to attack on flanks and rear of the enemy. He ordered to Hunters to take care of enemy Sagittary (really deadly archers), but he and several warriors reported that they didn’t follow…

… but while following the orders, the Gesithas on right flank were attacked by the Raiders of Icenorum. They didn’t keep their head and counterattacked, gaining immediately ground… and after a quickfight they routed the enemy Raiders.

In the meantime on left flank the combined charge of left Duguthas line and Gesithas obliged the enemy Bonheddwyr and Legionaries, tired for the charge at the beginning, outnumbered and losing morale for casualties started to back off; a strong warcry was too much for them and they routed, dragging along the center of enemy army that was well fighting and keeping the line.

Escape… was the word on enemy mouth. Captain Gundamar ordered to chase the enemy, till when no enemy would have been alive.
He finished his report saying that a better trained Hunters and some Cavalry units would have been useful to avoid several dead warriors and a better chase of routing enemy.
By the way enemy losses were heavy and Icenorum had no choice than surrender. Captain Gundamar ordered extermination, but not only due to my orders…

From Icenorum looting I got 7.000 denarii, with which I could enlist some Sea Riders unit for my fighting armies and to provide better defense on my towns.
Now, AD465, I am here on Ceintii walls looking west and thinking about campaign situation… Is not easy, and to manage two armies, war against Romano British and economy is a real hard task for us. My diplomats have done a very good work establishing trades with Pictish and Gaelic Tribes, while on the continent trades are with franks and Romano Gauls, but it seems noth enough...
I am worried about Axel population, that despite of my efforts, I can’t make them happy… Why? I heavily focused myself on this town, but the happiness stay less than one season, than they become disillusioned… Why? What can I do better than what I am doing?
I thought that maybe to try to oblige Romano British to ask for peace could be a solution, so I sent a strong and experienced army to Viroconium, to capture their capital… maybe…
Therefore there is the religion problem: my druids are pressing me and mumbling because I didn’t destroy churches in Londinium and Icenorum, replacing with our temples… but per Ull… I think that I have no need to add rioting people in Londinium and Icenorum due to church destroying to all others problem of campaign management.
Anyway I have to do something… but what would be the best solution…

THE STORY OF MEN OF SEAX
drawn from Historia Ecclesiastica Gentis Anglorum, by Venerable Bede, the Father of English history
    (reprint, revised and updated)
(freely drawn… really freely… but really really freely freely)

Ceintii, late summer of 463AD. It was a fresh early morning when the Captains Burkhard and X were called by Octha, noble Saxon and heir of Hengist, Bretwalda of Saxons.
" Burkhard, do you have any idea why Octha called this briefing, while all our warriors are gathering in the plain in front of Ceintii? "
" Dunno… – replied Burkhard – …but last night he had along meeting with his counsellor Marcellus Giovanninus. I think that we are moving, at last… I don’t know who is exactly and where he comes from, but if Marcellus suggested action to Octha… I can be only happy. I am tired to stay here idle… "
They entered in the throne room, where they found Octha waiting for them. He started immediatley to speak:
" Burkhard… Athanaric… my bravest and most trusted captains. Winter is near; we are here with too poor treasury, economy too close to collapse, too many of warriors to supply, little towns which one, Axel, ready to revolt. That thanks to our destiny, that wants us as a brutal fast moving offensive machine who in order to survive need to carve out by war a homeland.
I could be dishearten to go on with this campaign, but I agree with Marcellus that advised is time to move! My orders…

…with the most deep sadness in my heart, I decided to leave Axel, destroying all possible buildings and disbanding all its units. I understand that you could not agree… but I can’t do anything else than leave Axel to its destiny…
…during last months we hardly trained all our warriors, we disbanded all those that didn’t achieve the skills required and I enlisted the others in two fighting armies. Each one of you will lead these armies. You, Captain Burkhard, will attack and quickly capture Londinium, while you, Captain Athanaric, will direct towards Caerwent and quickly capture it too. That will put in danger Romano British supply lines to Icenorum, Caer Gwinntguic and Caer Cynwidion, so much easier to capture.
Oh… Yes… I know that winter is near, but due to that our enemies don’t expect our attack…So now let’s go to speak with our warriors…
    "
That said, Octha went towards Ceintii palisade, where he found his warriors drawn up in front of it. Once arrived they warcried while beating shields with their weapons. A wonderful coup d’oeil… Duguths, Geoguths, Gesithas, perfectly ranged with their shields and deadly weapons. Octha waited till clamours ends and then with a powerful voice he addressed his warriors:
    " SAXONS…! LISTEN TO ME!

Fourteen years ago, leaded by my father Hengist and his brother Horsa we came from our beloved and far homeland, called by Vortigern, Romanized British leader, to fight devastating raids by Picts Tribes. We achieved our task, asking
in return a land to farm and where to live in peace… but we were refused. They call themselves Romano British, but they are only untamed and unreliable people! They attacked by treason… killing Horsa… many brave warriors… but also our wives and sons…
Now is 463AD… we are ready for Hard Battles and Hard Campaign… I offer you blood, toil and tears… but also glory, plunders, and revenge! You have the strenght and the experience… found in your heart the bravery
I gathered you here because there must be no secrets berween us… You must know what you are doing and why!
I know that winter is not the right season to start a campaign, but Londinium is close to the west, and it is one of the richest town here… Just due to near winter, they don't expect our attack, but mainly their storages are plenty of every wealth! I know also that all of you deserve Londinium's plunder, but I decide than many of you attack and capture Caerwent, a rich town too. So I divided you in two armies, one for Londinium and the second to explore Caerwent surroundings. Then your task is to capture Caerwent.
MEN OF SEAX! You are the bravest! You are the strongest! Our destiny is in your hands! "

Immediately the two fighting armies were leaded each one toward own objective. Captain Burkhard reached quickly Londinium, while Captain Athanaric approached cautiously to Caerwent.

Once ready Captain Burkhard, and very quickly I must say, launched the assault to the walls of Londinium

Captain Burkhard made a very good job succeeding in his task to capture Londinium. As ordered he exterminated the population, that increased treasury, allowing to enlist new units, Hunters, because my captains complained about lack of missile units, that can avoid much casualties if well employed. I must think also to build my economy, people happiness, and units training.

Even if treasury now is larger and let me think more positively to the future, I must be very careful pending it. New units are needed as new buldings, so the choice is very hard; but there is another matter to look at. My scouts were not able to find any single Romano British. It seems that they are completely disappeared, and I am really worried about that. Maybe they were surprised by my strategy and they are enlisting a big new army. By the way I prefer to call back Captain Athanaric, add Hunters to his army and then send him to capture Caerwent

While approaching cautiously to Caerwent, Captain Athanaric was attacked by two Romano British armies: one small coming out from the town, encouraged by the incoming of the second army reinforcement came to help Caerwent.

Immediately Captain Athanaric drew up his units to face the enemy. Maybe he will be enough skilled to kill all enemies and capture Caerwent without sieging it. Immediately Captain Athanaric drew up his units to face the enemy. Maybe he will be enough skilled to kill all
enemies and capture Caerwent without sieging it.

Captain Athanaric didn’t succeed to completely circle the enemy’s armies, killing all Romano British… Some of them could repair in Caerwent, so now we are obliged to siege the town, with all possible dangers occurring, like another army coming to help them.

I will order to Captain Athanaric to avoid a long siege offering to Romano British to surrender, leaving their warriors to reach their nearest town, without any weapon… but only the warriors… the population must stay in the town! Romano British accepted to surrender and left Caerwent. The warriors and population were aware about what would be happened as soon as the last warrior left the town… kills and pilage!

We must give a warning to all Romano British. They must know what meant to betray us… to unkeep promises… to kill our women and chidren. Each of their towns will be sacked… population exterminated… leaving place for my people. For them the name Saxon will mean blood and terror… The capture of Caerwent was greatly greeted by Saxons as a positive advancement of the campaign. They are happy now in all settlements, and even their loyalty is increased to politic and strategic choice of my family.

Leaving some troops to garrison Caerwent, Captain Athanaric came back to Londinium to retrain units and refill casualties among his warriors. I took advantage gathering all warriors remaining from the two fighting armies, reorganized in one fighting army, adding Hunters and Sea Raiders, and leaving one close to Londinium as guard and supply. I orderd to Captain Adalgard, with the new fighting army, to siege and conquer Caer Gwinntguic.

In the meantime I could start build up some new structures, that lowered my treasury, but will return much more… I hope…

Caer Gwinntguic captured! Inside there was a larger number of enemies than expected, but at the end we won. The more experience and skills of my warriors till now was the main reason of our success; I hope that this will not make them too much confident…

By the way there was no time to waste, so the fighting army was immediately sent to siege Caer Cynwidion. I must gain all the possible advantages from surprise caused (it seems) for Romano British, capture many towns as possible, before they react.

Captain Malorix leaded the attack: few units inside, no army to reinforce… maybe, learned by the experience near Caerwent, Romano British prefer to wait till complete enlisting a full stacks army and then attack

Caer Cynwidion captured, but this time the loot was poor.
I called to Londinium my fighting army after two sieges to give rest and refill casualties that they had. In the meantime I had Ceintii rioting… (the same town were I am leaving!!!). So I decided to transfer to Londinium. Marcellus Giovanninus told me that he had a dream, in which our Gods told him that electing Londinium as Capitol City of our empire it will be the secret of success, richness and power!

It was a very good suggestion.
Trades within our towns and with Picts, Gaelic, Franks, Romano Gauls (much better than Romano British!), Lombardi are growing fast; people are happy now filling our towns full of activity and treasury is very much growing.

It was time to take back Axel, and I send my fighting army to siege it. This time I will wait till thirst, hunger and despair will oblige them to surrender or to fight for their lives. They must lear that any town owned by Saxons can revolt without paying aftermaths soon or later.

At the end Axel preferred to fight than surrender; despite of the full stack army inside the capture of Axel was easy. Without thinking too much what they were doing, they came out from the town all by one gate only, so for my Hunters was easy to kill firstly their Heortgeneats, the most dangerous warriors, and then all others. When they were able to get the contact with my warriors, they were few and discouraged by casualties, that it was an easy kill… no one escaped…

    Axell captured too!
Now is time for Icenorum to fall under Saxons control. I sent a spy to check the garrison force, before to fix next action for my warriors.

In the meantime I really satisfied of issues of my politic and strategy: five towns captured, people happy, trades incoming growing, good treasury amount, Ceintii and Caerwent enlaring… really satisfied!
I know also that my father Hengist is enlisting a new army in Vicus Saxones to haev a different starting point for future conquest. We agree to wait the end of war here in Britain and then decide where and from where start a new campaign.

Well, how's this for a blockade?:

I sped up development a bit and enriched all of the factions to get mega battles but I also kept some developing according to the mod. In any case as this point, I am finally at war with the ERE and it looks as is they're going to give a good fight.

I went to the phone and thought I paused it, I didn't and they over ran my lines.

So when I came back my line had been breeched and then we fought like animals in a very vicious battle.

But my Brits finally succeed in conquering the foe!

    Very imaginative!

What settings did you change to speed up development?

Looks like the Roman Britones are going all the way

Sorry for the break -- just got back from San Antonio -- very nice city. Anywho -- I did "process_cq" (that develops all the buildings in the que instantly) for some but not all of my cities and also in the beginning I di d"add_money" and then gave huge gifts to other factions so that they would also develop higher quality units faster. (I do this selectively but to encourage the almost constant occurrence of huge battles.

My navy got well ahead early on -- not because of money or speed (I didn't speed up any of the Scandinavian settlements) but because no one else was going after the weak rebel units there.

I guess that's two things I noticed -- the rebels are much weaker than usual and don't know if this is on purpose or not but Nicopolis ad Istrum can't build highways.

Great Mod -- haven't played for a week --see if I can get in a game tonight.
