    Default needing some help

hello, I have just begun modding and i'm quite a newbie and I need some help with skinning. I use Adobe Photoshop CS2 and I wanted to change the colour of the shield of the armourd hoplite of the greeks into red with some patterns. The skin does work but there is one problem. I wached them in custom battle and their shield was red indeed. But the ridge (I don't know how to say it else in English) on the helmet has strange sides know. I did certainly not change the helmet. I did also change the skin of the greek archer and I've used him for my new greek chariots, but that skin doesn't has something strange about it and the chariots work good (however it was a whole problem to let the chariots with melee weapons use their swords and not ther spears, but i've fixed that in 3ds max. BTW where are the screenshots located, so I can send a screen of the problem.

When you say ridge of the helmet do you mean the plume? i.e. the decoration. If by looks strange you mean that there is a rectangle shape around the plume details. This is an alpha channel mistake easily fixable.

Open your skin in photoshop and you should see some small windows within photoshop.

Select the area surrounding the plume not the actual plume itself though.

One of these little windows will have 3 tabs one called "layers" one called "channels" and one called "paths" left click on channels and look for one thats called somehting along the lines of alpha 1 click this and your skin will turn into a white field possibly with some black patches on it. In rome Black on this view is transparent. Fill the area you have selected that surrounds the plume in solid black and that will make this area transparent ingame.

    Hope that helps

    Default more help?

thanks for the tip and it's solved now mostly. Only the first in battle line has the bug now. I saw another post from a while ago and he had the same bug but he used an other program. It had something to do with saving. Can enybody tell me how to set the safe settings in photoshop?
BTW how do you change the parent bone of an object in 3ds max? I wanted to put the shield of a hoplite on it's back but it had still Lelbow as Parent. Any tips?

Well for me once ive set up the texture save correctly the first time it just stays on those settings unless you chang ethem.

As for the bone import your model go in schematic view (the button that looks likea flow chart) then right click the shield and theres an option i think its called "unlink selected" or something similar to that. then right click the box called shield in schematic and choose connect and then using the new cursor left click the shield in schematic view and draw a line between the shield and the new place you want to link it to
