    Default Your experiences playing the Templars

    I thought it would be interesting to see the different ways all of you are playing the Templars and what kind of luck you are having.

    For myself, I found that playing them on VH/VH without tweaking any of SS 3.0's files was nearing impossible. I consider myself a good player, but without a decent economy and army, I was overrun by the Egyptians within the first 40 turns. I had an alliance with them, but they broke it, even though our relations were at Very Good. The surrounding rebel cities were too strong to take without building up some troops first. My economy went into the red. My fate was sealed.

    After that experience, I tweaked my game this way:
    I set the timescale to 1.5 years per turn.
    I added Ultimate AI 1.3.
    I gave the Templars an extra 1,000 florins to start with.
    I set campaign difficulty to Hard (battles still at VH).

    So far, so good. The game is still a challenge but not overwhelming. I'm about 50 turns in and control Tortosa, Adana, Damascus, Antioch and Aleppo. The Egyptians have again attacked me, but I have one fairly good army and a decent economy. The stage is set for some real fun, now.

    Share some of your own reports.

    I'm playing H/H or H/VH (I don't remember which) and I'm having no problems. When the Mongols arrive I may loose a few cities, but atm I'm smashing the Egyptians.

    I'm Playing M/VH, I chose it that way because I want it a to be a quick one. But the fact is, I love it and I might restart it more serouisly H or VH. I'm in my 35th turn and I annihilated the egyptians and short after the Turks.
    My trick was to start the first couple of turns aggressively and expand.
    Those templers really got quite cool infantry, but I was surprized that they can't recruite any ships.
    It's kind of cool depending on pirates only but then it starts getting on your nerves seeing your shores swarming with enemy ships while you have to wait 2,3,4 turns just to recruit 1 lousy pirate ship for 1000+.

    Press on your molars;
    Offer god your skull;
    Pin your foot into ground;
    Behold opposing flanks but disregard their breadth;
    And know that victory comes from the All Mighty.

    Hi,

    The Templars faction is very well done, started a campaign and got to about 1120 (one turn per year). I've taken all the Levant and I'm moving in on Gaza.

    BUT I have a problem that's stopped me continuing. I cannot build churches or any other religious building! Which means no priests, which means I can't convert the Muslims, so it's not really possible to carry on.

    Can anyone help? I need to know how to put churches back in.

    thanks

    Hmm, you should be able to build churches. I've had no problem with that.

    Have you integrated another mod with Stainless? Perhaps it screwed up your descr_buildings file.

    Hi Scatcat,

    First of all thanks for the feedback!
    And well, as Wolfgrin already mentioned, you should be able to build churches as every other faction...

    And @all others: Thanks for your reports! They are quite interesting!

    HI !
    First of all, a big hugg to King Kong for this superior mod ! I playd vanilla camaign and LTC for a long campaign. But SS is really a new kind of feeling to play the templars. Here is my starting experience :

    I play at H/VH with one turn per year. First i took the small settlement in the north like demanded in the mission. To delete the problem with money i do following: give the pope a regular payment of ca 200 for ten years, he will like this.
    after 4-5 turns you will be able to get an alliance with him. Then ask him for a crusade to the city in the near north of ur capital (dont know the name right now, sorry). Now u can recruite cheep pilgrims and with some spearman and mercenaries u can attack.

    For me, now im going to the east, conquer some small rebell-towns and perhaps im doing the next cruisade to bagdad ?... will see

    btw, i cant build churches too, or do i need to have bigger settlemants ?

    ...and sorry for may bad english !

    Hi Blaue Bohne,

    Thanks for your feedback!
    And no need to apologize for your English...
    Ich hab da auch meine Schwierigkeiten damit!

    And well, I've just checked the building files and actually you should be able to build churches as all other factions...

    ich möcht dich noch bitten mir doch zu helfen damit ich die real arrow mod reintun kann und ich freu mich schon wen du die mechanik der schlachten änderst weil es gibt einfach punkte die noch voll nerven und das spiel teilweise fast zerstören aber... das schaffst du schon. noch ne frage welche fraktion willst du als nächstes einbauen. es gibt ja schon massig neue von anderen moddern. vielleicht kannste ja mal fragen ob du sone zwischenversion machen darfst wo du die anderen fraktionen reintun kannst weil ich wäre wirklich froh über mehr neue fraktionen. ich hab alle standardvölker in den kampagnen durchgespielt und suche was neues deine templer haben da schon sehr geholfen. ich bin leider unfähig das alles selber zu machen ich vertrau voll auf dich. noch was, ich hab en ganzen haufen texturen heruntergeladen die teilweise schon hammer sind. es wäre hammergeil wen amn die alle zusammen tun könnte. es sind alles nur ideen und ich verlange garnichts von dir nur ich träume eben halt vom perfekten medieval II weil das ding mich so krass gefesselt hat. sorry das ich deutsch geschrieben habe aber all das könnt ich nich in englisch sagen

    Hi Toopers,

    Well, I try to answer in English...
    (Aber ich versteh schon, dass lange texte auf Englisch echt anstrengend sein können )
    Unfortunately I can't tell you how to add the real arrow mod, because it's not compatible with patch 1.2 yet.

    I havn't finally decided which new factions will follow, but I made a temporary statement about new factions here
    (in the last post): http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...t=85224&page=3

    About integrating other mod's factions: I think most mod creators don't like something like that, unfortunately.
    However, I have also had in mind to call some modders to make a kind of mod alliance to make
    the Ultimate Mod in terms of gameplay, graphics, realism, bright new factions!
    The possibilities would be sooo great!
    But I'm afraid I won't get much respond from the other modders...

    Btw, If anyone of you (modders) reads this and is interested, let me know, please!

    you mentions that you have though about, call other modders and your maybe
    right about the feedback.
    I have seen on the wrath of the norsemen mod, that they to need help and modders.
    However i have seen on the Land to conquer by Lusted great mod
    and he have made a "need help" thread, just an idea and those who have any suggenstions to the SS mod could do some research at the same time.
    And after that you could decide what you want to integrate to your mod

    just an though

    Hello again.

    I uninstalled and deleted the relevant directories, then re-installed. I can now build churches normally. Not sure what happened but it's working now

    I think its a great idea you should continue pursuing it eventually some modders will agree , try to getting Darth and Grand Wiz their input might be key to a supreme mod.

    Real Strategos always makes sure his troops are flexible .
    "The Condition of a military force is that its essential factor is speed,taking advantage of others' failure to catch up,going by routes they do not expect,attacking where they are not on guard."

    yes, thanks for the remembrance, Wolfgrin!
    I also would rather have read another Knights Templar experience...

    Hi Scatcat,
    I've found out why some people can't build churches and I'll fix that very soon...
    There is a small error in the 1 turn=1year building descriptions file.

    So, back to topic, please...
