Default It came from the sea!

Was looking at some pics of strange and downright bizarre sea creatures, thought I'd share them. Please post more if you have 'em.

Wasnt sure if this should go here or the science forum so please move if need be. Thanks.

    Chimaera fish:

    Black Dragon fish:

    "Dumbo Octopus":

    Blob fish:

    Bathysaurus:

    Viperfish:

    Teuthoweniad:

    Some kind of weird shark:

"And I have felt the sudden blow of a nameless wind's cold breath,
And watched the grisly pilgrims go that walk the roads of Death,
And I have seen black valleys gape, abysses in the gloom,
And I have fought the deathless Ape that guards the Doors of Doom."

I hate the blob fish. Its eyes are too human.

Now I'm afraid to leave my room.

I would never say that I hate any of them.God created them and hence, his creation's insult is a sacrilege for me.We must rather try to find the hidden beauty that's bestowed in those innocent creatures who look creepy through our eyes but really aren't that horrible.Maybe they would treat us the same way if they had our senses. They probably wouldn't.We must remember above all that beauty does have many forms and it lies in the eyes of the beholder as has always been said since the time of Aristotle.

You are mistaken. The Blob Fish was created not by God, but by Satan. They are the incarnate form of damned souls who have refused to kneel in allegiance to him after their arrival in Hell - they are punished by reincarnation on Earth as a Blob Fish until their will is broken and they submit. Hence the horrifyingly human eyes and chin.

What a great thread. +rep for the OP.

I'll move it to the science forum.

    Sea slugs:

I had some help from some buddies at another forum collecting these amazing specimens. You know who you are.

With the exception of the blob fish.

Heres that freaky lookin' prehistoric shark the Japanese caught on film last year. Creepy stuff.

I thought that thing was fake at first as it's movements were sluggish and unnatural. Then I realized it was a deep sea fish on the verge of death due to being up in shallow waters. Did they drag it up or something I wonder?

Some things in the depths of the sea are just creepy. :S
But it's also fascinating that there are so mange strange creatures we've never seen.

Nihil, I've seen a slug that looked like that one, at a sealife-center.

"I would never say that I hate any of them.God created them and hence, his creation's insult is a sacrilege for me."

Chillax. Besides, not all people think God created everything. If I had created them there would have been a lot less of those creepy fish further up in the thread, and more funny looking ones.

Haha, these things are only creepy becasue we're not used to them. They live in places that humans can't go without specialist equipment. Who knows, if we'd grown up with a blob fish in our house maybe we'd find it cute?

The same can be said of insects. Though we see them all the time, they're far too tiny to be able to see their details clearly. Look at a blown up picture of any insect (or at one through a microscope), they are terrifying!

(please don't post blown up pics of insects, or I'll have to stop looking at this thread out of fear!)

I still can't stand my goldfish. They're always staring at me, no matter where I am.

That is just because they are constantly forgetting who you are. I'd suggest a staring contest to clear things up.

That prehistoric shark looks so fragile.. I wonder if he is drunk.

Nihil, the colours of those slugs are really beautiful, that thingy on the fifth picture that looks like a pimped up shushi roll really has some amazing patterns.

Hehe, it's pretty funny. It looks like a human face, if you stare at it with some attention.

If you have any videos of these species, could you post? It's also cool to see them "live" or on their own habitat!... This thread sure is great, an inovative and fun way to "culturalize" ourselves.
