    Default Death

What do you think about death? Have you ever thought about it? Does it scares you?

For me it depends on how I will die, the reason and many things. Sometimes when I'm thinking about it, I realize how short is life.

Also, what happens after it? We will just dissappear? Go to heaven? Wait for the second presence of Jesus and then go to heaven? Free-roam around the world?

For my body I don't care too, because I won't be able to do anything with it anymore.

Any one who has seen a dead human body will know that there is an odd feeling of nothingness about it. I can only really talk about my own experience and other people I have talked to. When you see a dead human that recognition has gone and all you really see is meat. Even the face has lost it's meaning. Myself I believe that the human brain is only really electrical impulses etc so when you die all of these simply stop and don't restart again. There will be no feeling and no concept so it won't really matter that your dead. The only ones who mourn are the living. I would like to think of reincarnation but then it is about as realistic as me becoming emperor of the world! Show me some evidence other than that "I saw the light" BS then I might listen.

I think I'd like being a ghost that roamed around. It would be great to travel the world and see amazing sights...though I'm sure I'd be lonely and sad...after all, I'm dead and can't be with people anymore...

That said, I don't know what happens after death, I will have to find out one day!

Probably I'll just decompose somewhere, but hey, I can hope!

If there is a life after death, I'll find out when I die. But I think that I'll end up in a 10x2ft box about 6ft under.

Heh, considering my luck I'll be lucky to get into a mass grave 2 foot deep.

Well, death is a natural part of life, we must not fear it... it's like eating an icecream, it happens all the time and it is cold. A friend of mine's dad died some weeks ago and no tear streamed down my face. 10 days ago a very good and precious friend of mine died. Not one tear. I'm not unsensitive, it's just a natural part of life, why fear it?

I don't want to suffer when I die, I want it to be swift. I just want to enjoy life as much as I can.
I don't want my life to be useless. I don't want to be a John Doe. I don't want to be a Hollywood star. I want to be remembered for something very specific that I did.

I once (exactly a year ago) was on a trip from Lisbon to London. When I departed to the British capital, I had this feeling that I would not live to come back. That feeling lasted until the plane landed in the Lisbon Airport. But still, here I am!

I don't believe in life after death. It's the end of our organism's functions. We die. We're dead. We're just dead. We're another body that fell in the death's claws.

Ive experienced Death on a very personal level recently and one thing that i got out of it was that , Getting all bent out of shape over Death is foolish because It comes to Everyone No matter who you are everyone on this Planet is Going to Die Someday no matter who they are.

SO whats to worry if ,its going to come to you anyways no sense in worrying about small petty everyday stuff, just Enjoy the Life given to you and Have A Good One :tacticalw

and you shouldnt worry when it come's to someone close to you either , because it was bound to happen someday too ,so drink up and let the party begin :tacticalw :tacticalw

@William the Bastard : I disagree , people dont turn to meat when they die, Their dead bodys look more like People Sleeping only after a couple of day's does the body start's to show any sign of meattyness

My dad has police dogs and when they find a dead body they tend to start chowing down straight away (unless you stop them of course). By meat I really mean lack of what people call soul.

Death is the returning of the soul -You- back into the cosmic Abyss.

What happens after it? ......We wait, and wait and wait a very very long eternity until that moment , that place of awakening ,our finite birth, we can once again know of time.
We will just disappear ? No We never ever actually ....Disappear. The body elements returns to the particle energy states of no form , but the soul retains it's life and form.
Go to Heaven? No , we rejoin the cosmic collective.
Wait for the second presence of Jesus and then go to heaven? ....Possibly ... If that is to be Your future drama.
Free-roam around the world? .... There is No world after death to roam. The soul transgresses all finite things. The earth is a composition of trillions upon trillions of souls. A cosmic collective that has as a part of their self-being the earth and it's finite journey foe all who enter it's time bound dramas.Earth is a theatrical arena. All acts of the mortal are conducted within the very essence of trillions upon trillions of other souls.
Birth is the removal of self-essence from the ever-lasting confines of the universal collective.
All faiths and ideas of the mortal journey are our ideas of dynamic living. Dynamic existence Not attainable in our state of origin. We live the finite life that We may know of Life. We die that we have lived.

i'm not afraid of death. i like to see it as sleeping, and since i love sleeping, it doesn't look so scary anymore. it's a bit the same with life after death. but i think that my view is a bit more realistic.
i also love to watch a haunting on discovery. but no matter how many times i watch, i still don't believe in ghosts...

Although I am forced to take an Epicurean stance on the afterlife, we all must fear death, because we are all bound by human instinct.

    Good thread.
I did not fear death when I was younger, single and unattached, though I feared dying slowly and painfully. Now, with my own family, I get these twinges of fear, and explore the reality of death from a different angle. Not better, mind, just different. Some of this new found fear of death is linked to me making the choice to root myself in Samsara - finding a wife/husband and creating children definitely obligates you to the realm of need and want.
I worry about my child, and how she will fare. To a certain degree I'd like to pass with dignity, not smucked by a bus while jogging and having my head in one neighbour's lawn while one of my legs is in another.
Yet, as much as I admit a new fear of death, there is also that innate curiosity as well. I can't predict my own will and self discipline, but if we look at Socrates, he actually examined his own passing as the hemlock set in, discussing the numbness in his legs and the feeling of coldness.
One thing I hope is that I'm not ranting or crying. I've seen the elderly pass with just as much cluelessness as when they entered the world. Contemplating this, I want to redouble my efforts learn as much as I can.
    Once again, great thread.

I can't imagine what will happen if after death, my conciousness will just disappear, and nothing more... So I believe in life after death: the Universe can't be that hollow...
