Default The 2006-2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs: Presented by tnick777

The Stanley Cup... The sporting world's most coveted trophy... The oldest of any kind... Is up for grabs yet again. In the east the young Penguins battle it out among the President Trophy winning Sabres and the always talented Senators, while in the west looms the fast moving Wild and the defensively talented Ducks...
But only one will hoist the trophy.

The Stanley Cup playoffs will start this Wednesday.

I'm sure you'd at least find hockey interesting. Think of it as a cross of rugby (in that it's pretty physical) and European football (very fast paced). Anyhoo, I should have my bracket up soon.

Not at all.. Datsyuk sucks in the PO's

Wild are red hot... Backstrom, Gaborik, Demitra and Rolston could plow over Osgood and Hasek.

ughhh Hockey If the whole game was fighting then I would watch it, but I do respect hockey players, I have attempted to ice skate with mixed results, it must be difficult to play a game of basically soccer on ice.

Well, from the little I can say about Hockey, all I can ask for about this competition is:
please post youtube clips of fights as they erupt :p
Anyway: yeas, hocky is very physical, but since it's about passing the "ball" around, and not about clashing along a rater well defined "front line" separating camps most of the time, It's essentially more like football than like rugby. The violence, however cool and emblematic of the sport, is but an epiphenomenon to the rules.

au contraire my French friend. Checking is very much a part of the game. But you're right, it is more like European football with lots of hitting than rugby.

When I mean violence, I mean people beating each other with sticks, and slashed jugulars
There's a whole lot of checking in handball too, which is more physicall a sport than you'd think at a casual glance. And it's rather similar in scale to Hockey. And when I see hockeyers cicrling around the opposite goal trying to find an opening, I find it rather similar to handballers circulating the ball just outside the semicircular 6 meters perimeter and trying to find an opening in the opposite team's defense. Again, that the hockeyers use a puck and sticks and are playing on ice, doesn't make it an essencially different sport: Hockey, Basketball, Football association, Polo, Water Polo or Handball all share more similarity with each others, than they do with RUgby, imho.

There's many types of hockey to be played it all depends on the players... that's why buffalo did so well..

You have gritty people like Ian Lapperriere

You have snipers who are like Dany Heatley

You have Danglers like Alexander Ovechkin

Then you have play makers like Joe Sakic

Toronto was put out by a game they didn't even play(Islanders beating the Devils). I don't care who wins, so long as the Islanders don't.

The thing I hate about playoff season is everyone gets "patriotic" all of a sudden and cheers for whatever Canadian team happens to be doing the best. I find these people to be despicable. Traitors to sports teams deserve to be pummeled to death with a barrage of frisbees.

Detroit is my pick to win this one.

Go Flames Go! I'm thinking it is a 50/50 for Detroit and Calgary. The Canucks will beat the Stars. I'm not sure about all of the others. Especially the Eastern Conference. I don't see enough of their games.
