Help please

I tried to install FATW on a fresh RomeGold, and was plagued by problems from the start.

I solved the first two, but I'm stumped by the third.

Apparently, my computer can't find the aerial map "settlement_roman_level_1" in the database

Please advise, help much appreciated.

Have you checked that it is patched to 1.6? A lot of Gold editions are only patched to 1.4 - you can find out which you have by going into Options and looking at the top right corner.

Okay, turns out it's got 1.5 - what do I do now?

Elohim - there is no such thing as BI 1.5. You are looking in the wrong game. Still, if RTW is 1.5 then BI should be 1.6 - so now simply follow the instructions in the first post (it's all automated so can't go wrong unless you specify the wrong path during installation).

I think I may have specified the wrong path on the shortcut (I'm really not sure though)

If the file with all the RTW stuff in is "E:\Chiv & FATW", what should the target & Start In say?

You cannot specify the wrong path on the shortcut as it is generated automatically by the installation process based on the path you gave in the installation process - and if you got that wrong then changing the shortcut properties will not help you.

Nevertheless, below I have given the Target and Start In contents for the most common setup people normally have on their computer (standard BI 1.6 with C: drive, unchanged folder names):

Target:
"C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -nm -show_err -mod:bi\ci

Start In:
"C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War"

And as you have Gold 'Activision' will probably be replaced by 'The Creative Assembly'.
