Perhaps some of the more experienced modellers can aid me.
When adding scabbards to a model, is there any way to get the sword to appear in the scabbard, then switch to the hand? Like when the unit goes from spear to sword?
I came up with an idea for this today, while taking a long break.
I tried cloning the hilt of the sword on a model, and attaching it to the primary weapon, in this case the spear. This way when the unit switches to swords, it disappears, making it look [somewhat] like the sword has been drawn. This has worked, to a point.
Now the problems.
1) Cannot be done with any special formations.
Phalanxes...forget it. When these formations are added to the unit, the unit is now using a totally separate spear. So the hilt disappears right at the beginning. It works with regular spear units though.
2) Fixing the hilt to the scabbard.
I tried putting a skin modifier on the hilt to the pelvis while leaving the spear alone. Works fine as a .max file, and even when you load animation .cas files in max. Save the model to a .cas and the skin modifier goes bye-bye. Then you get a floating sword hilt in the game. Like a little birdy! Tweet! Tweet!
Either you can't skin a linked item in a .cas file, or I'm doing it wrong. Seems to work fine in a .max file.
3)Skin modifier on the hilt, then linking it to the primary weapon in the bone hierarchy.
Doesn't work. "...needs bone as its parent"
Anyone with ideas? Or am I wasting my time?![]()
