M2TW Holy Roman Empire Flag, wrong?

Hi, I was searching on google for flags for the roman empire, and saw the resemblence in the Byzantine flag *obviously*, Serbia, and Albania. I thought it would be in the flag of the Holy roman empire too, like in m2tw kinda, but when I searched it in on google all the results came up with this flag.



Is this right? Google says it is, so did CA get it wrong or was it changed?

Yeah, this is the battle banner of the HRE, the golden banner with the black eagle on it was the imperial banner. Usually the should be placed next to each other, I think.

as far as i know.... it is all about timing... both flags are correct, but in different time in history.

the flag you posted was official flag of HRE in years from 1200 to 1350 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Roman_Empire)

anyway... "the imperial eagle" was german simbol for much longer (it still is) and since year 800 or something.
It is most known and most often represented as the eagle from Maximilian II Coat of Arms (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximil..._Roman_Emperor)

Oh i see, thanks for the quick answers guys. And they still had the 2 headed eagle like the romans, byzantines, serbia and albania? *wanabe romans, they weren't even decended*

Could the danish flag of had an effect on theirs? or have descended?

I think the flags of the serbs and albanians came from the byzantines since that was their sphere of influence. The danish one probaly comes from the hre being in such proximity. The hre might have gotten some of their flags from the byzantines or the romans so therefore it makes sense that the danes indirectly have relation.

HRE and Byzantines both got their symbols from Romans.

one head for the eastern roman empire and one for the western
one body to shows the unity of the empire.
This was deicided during the period of dividing the roman empire.

how about instead of discussing the validity of the established faction symbols, someone releases a mod with period accurate faction flags, battle flags, and all the panoply of war?!?

The flag in OP is just a mirrored version of the flag of Denmark... I`ve never heard about it having anything to do with the flag of neither the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, the Holy Roman Empire, Serbia nor Albania. Considering that flag is 99% the same as what the danes were using just a few miles north of them (and the danes adopted their flag at roughly the same time, but at an earlier date) it must have been the "war banner" of a specific state in the Holy Roman Empire - at least at first.
Then I suppose it could have been adopted as official war banner by some freak chance - but it seems like a very weird coincidence that they would use a banner so alike what their old enemies used just across the border...
Also, I would appreciate a different source for this info than wikipedia...

No, really, I would like another source - Now I really feel like wanting to find out more about this weird, flag-based coincidence.
