Default New religion ? "Jedi census phenomenon"

The Jedi census phenomenon was a grassroots movement in 2001 for citizens in a few English-speaking countries to record their religion as "Jedi" or "Jedi Knight" (after the fictitious religious order of Force-attuned knights in the Star Wars films) on the national census. Australian Star Wars Appreciation Society president Chris Brennan reported to The New Zealand Herald that while a minority were "true hard-core people that would believe the Jedi religion carte blanche", the majority of self-reported Jedi "either did so for a laugh or to poke borax at the Government". Other news reports also interpreted the exercise as a massive practical joke

What is a 'Jedi'? A wayward agnostic? An ex-Christian drawn to the Eastern elements of the 'force'?

    Bah. Go study Taoism.

(I remember watching a parody video of Jedi proselytizers walking the streets of Australia. Arg! Must find it!)

In the most basic sense of what the Jedi were, those that beleived in a "Force" that controlled the fates of men and all, but with certain training could be controlled, that it should be used carefully lest you get tainted by it, use it for god not evil....

If you are to kick out all the Yoda, Darth Vader, and lightsabres....

It really does sound like a plausible religion. Does it not?

Warrior-oriented cult of the self. Like the bushido code, but bigger-scale and dogmatic.

Meh. Jedi and Sith are basically just agnostic taoists. The only difference between the ideologies in the films is that the Jedi choose to help by staying aloof from emotion, while the Sith choose to help by empowering themselves with emotion- the Sith = Evil fallacy stems from Lucas' ****ty writing ability and the movie's biased pro-Rebel point-of-view.

So, it'd just be easier to say "taoist" on the next census, unless you're a big Star Wars fan and just want to poke fun at the government bureaucracy.
