I love this is song so much.Ozzy's vocals just sound great. The song starts out as a pure heavy metal rock song. Then it starts to become jazzy and a piano appears then it slows down and becomes a very chilled out song.
Sabbath where never given there dues in the 70's.They were lambasted for their 'simple' tunes and lyrics. But listening back i think Sabbath's songs changed, altered and were more musically complex then many other bands out there.
They had a heavy side with songs like 'Symptom of the Universe' and 'Iron Man' but also there soft side with songs like 'Solitude' and 'Planet Caravan'
They also experimented with strings, piano, flutes, trumpets, synthesizers in their songs.
I believe the first 6 sabbath albums were the best album run of any band ever.
Out of those six albums there is not a single bad song among them.Astonishing.
Every album laid the foundations for heavy metal.Wherever that be speed/thrash/doom/sludge metal.Sabbath created it all.The fact that they didnt have a single bad song on 6 albums encompassing 5 years of work is simply mind-boggling.
There will not be many times that I find myself in agreement with you Moralman, but this is one of them. Sabbath were one of the most groundbreaking bands that ever came out of this country.
Personal favourite song would be "Killing yourself to live", or "Snowblind", but they are all so good that its really hard to pick one.
