Default AGP Ati 1950 vid card question

Has anyone tried to run this card with anything less than the recommended 450watt pwer supply?

    I have a 430 watt running a 7800gs.

I have 1 hard drive 2 optical drives a floppy and 2 fans running.

The 7800gs is kinda weak for me and I'd like to upgrade but not if I have to buy a PSU as well.

    Any feedback would be great.

It is up to you but in my opinion there is no worth in upgrading from your current card to the ATI 1950. You should save the money for the next logical step in upgrading which would be the DirectX 10 video card range (i.e. Geforce 8800).

This depends on what your current system also houses so if you could tell us what CPU and how much RAM you own that would be helpful.

On the PSU issue: There is no way of knowing if it will run by only knowing how much wattage the unit supplies. We need to know how many amps there are on the +12V rail. Thats something which is commonly overlooked. On the side of the PSU should be a label that will give you this information.

your probably right about waiting to upgrade. i'm at work so I'll have to look up that stuff when I get home.

    Thanks!

Soon will be realised [2900 series. Probably it will be better than 8800. I have thinking about buing 1950 AGP, but..... I will wait the end of a summer, or a fall to buy a new powerfull PC.

No, they won't beat the 8800. Tie at most. But by the time AMD-Ati gets their GPU's out, NVidia will release their next series, the 8900's. (And 8950?)

they could very well beat the current gen dx10 cards but as Arakorn has pointed out the delay has been so long they have lost footing on the ladder and they will be releasing a high end gpu into a matured market.
They have lost the early adopters, the section they should be marketing too are the mid range crowd and Nvidia will have that covered by the end of this month iirc.

Yes, the mid range is where all the money is made, so it's the most important segment from a business p.o.v.
ATi claims it will release it's mid range before the "back to school season".....so my guess is mid 2009.

Will nVidia really release it's mid range product by the end of this months?
That's only a few weeks away and it's still awfully quiet.
And if they do, will they be available in shops right away?

either the end of this month or early next month is what the rumours have been saying and they seem quite plausible because a number of websites have had reference 8600GT's to play with.

Even 8950 have lower characterictics than x2900. 512 bit memory in 2900, but 340 bit in 8950 GX2 (most powerfull for now in Nvidia - but two 8800 gts in reality); frequency 575/2000 in 8950, but x2900xtx 800/2200. And ATI plans to make x2900 xt2, two x2900 xt in one card (like 8950 GX2)
Even 8800 utra will be weaker than x2900 xtx
So i have a big doubts. I'll wait the tests results. For now x2900 better than any 8800
