Archers kicking Calvary butt in HtH?
Perhaps it's just me, and certainly not the mod, but I've always come across an interesting...occurance.
So, It would seem that calvary would be great at attacking and dispersing those pesky archers that want to fling wooden sticks at my army. However, this is normally what happens:
I order to charge said archers with say, my general's bodyguard, for example. Archers flee for a bit (skirmishers), then bodyguard catches up. Bodyguard starts hacking, but within a few moments, archers have killed 2-4 of my men, and I've only killed maybe 3-6 of thiers in turn. It gets worse the longer the fight is. I end up loosing strong armoured fellows to knives.
Sometimes, because they skirmish, I order my men to charge -behind- the archers, but the results are the same.
Has anyone else noticed this? Or am I crazy?

Re: Archers kicking Calvary butt in HtH?
So, I ran a couple of tests, and it turns out it isn't as bad as I thought. Normally, at most, I lose about 1/4 of my clavary, and wipe out the archers. Ironically, peasant archers are tougher then longbowmen. Simply because longbow men tend to be slower to run away, so a full "charge action" can be done, wiping them out quickly. Peasent archers, on the other hand, are quick disengage, and force you to chase them.
I also figured out why I had such hight casualty rates, as previously discussed. Turns out, I've been just having my calvary "move through" the archers. I thought they would fight as they were moving, but instead, the archers are just getting free hits, with no casualties on thier side.
FYI, in a few test runs, I found out that light calvary are eerily good at completly destroying longbowmen.
So this thread isn't a total waste now, I'll ask: "How do you best defeat archers with minimal casualties?"

not uncommon. with cavalry you want to run archers down, not have a static fight with them or they'll take your horses underside and then kill you while your pinned by the horse.(Agincourt)
