    Default GrumpOldMan for Opifex

Given his great work in producing the .mesh importer/exporter for M2Tw that will make truly major mods possible, and new unit models, and will likely be improved to allow all .mesh files to be edited not just soldiers, i believe he is deserving of the rank of Opfiex given how crucial this is to the mod community.

Shouldn't he (formally of course) first be promoted to Artifex (or civitate...)?

I don't see why Grumpyoldman's contribution couldn't be rewarded imediately with Opifex. To a layman like me, it seems to be a real breakthrough that could have major implications for a core activity that this site promotes.

We should ask him. If he likes to become opifex - why not. I hope he'll be a regular visitor to TWC in future times though.

I think he can just become a Opifex straight away.

I'm not a modder and even I can recognize how important his program will become. Totally support from the cheap seats.

He has managed to release an extremely useful tool which is a lifesaver to the modding community. I support. However, I think that the other people who have worked and helped on this tool, like zxiang and KnightErrant should be honored in a way.

Unfortunately he does not meet the criteria for Citizen (50 posts needed and he has a lot of double posts anyway), however I believe he should be our first modding triumph!

The triumph bill passes on Friday: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=90551

And someone should propose him for Artifex when he gets 50 posts too.

Of course of course, but does he even have enough posts to become a citizen?

I support this too, it's just, well, you know, against the rules so to say to do so...

EDIT: Agree with JP. He made it before me, just a couple of seconds

Definition of spending too long in Curia; someone just released tool to make model editing practical in new game and you didn't notice till it got posted in Proth.....

...could we break few 'rules' and give him whatever rank is available please.. this has to be as significant as Vercingetorix's contributions to RTW...

Damn he doesn't have enough posts. Then i propose that GrumpyOldMan and Knight Errant(zxiang didn't eally contribute to making the tool, he has just helped test it) be the first to receive modding trimuphs once the bill has passed.

Then we will have to do the same for others.

    It just is this way...

Why don't you go ask Bill Gates "Can't I have a Windows Vista Ultimate for free? Just me, just this once". If you do it once, you'll have to do it more times.

A bit of an odd example, true... And I really support giving Grumpy a triumph and so too, it's just that we can't ignore the rules we've made ourselves. So, go vote yes for that auto promotion of new peregrinuses!

True, friend, but how often do we see revolutionaries like Grumpy? I would willingly allow hundreds of members to bear the honor of Opifex if they all released tools as immensely beneficial as Grumpy's model exporter.

Let the man have his triumph (which will produce an obligatory one or two posts--he must reply to the thread at some point! ), then make him an Opifex.

While I totally support his becoming of Opifex, I think that we have a chance to re-write the rules for becoming a Civitate and Artifex. Slightly different requirements for each that is, more suited to each rank.

I agree. The fact that the Civitate rank is gained by debating lends itself to the fact that Civitates will have higher post counts.

Modders - from my experience - prefer to get on with the job, rather than talking about it.

I agree with Arakorn, we don't break our own rules. Propose him for Artifex at 50 posts and give him a triumph on Friday.

I personally don't agree with Opifex at 30 posts.

Well.. we could always have a propositional Opifex vote.. meaning it won't come into effect until after he reaches 50 posts

well that is asking for something for yourself, which may / may not be justified - what we are discussing here is saying well 'Bill Gates' has been quite useful to the computer industry, shall we give him an award here, as
a). he probably deserves it, and
b). in self interest to site; it may (only possibly)make him look favourably on this community.

Anyway as far as I understand most modders - I suspect ranks etc. weren't anything to do with his motivation for fixing this, so I'm not going to push issue.
