    Default Worst Defeat?

    What was your worst defeat?

Mine was against Macedon. My Legio Ferrata (which was a newly raised green legion) was attacked during Macedon's turn by a full stack of royal phalanx and hoplite swordsmen (and some cavalry) all at 2 or 3 GOLD chevrons. I beat them with a heroic victory, and then...

BAM! I get hit with another full stack of 2-3 gold chevron royal phalanx and swordsmen, they outnumbered me by 2 to 1, and I lost the entire legion (including the eagle). I had my general retreat before he got killed, but then he was disgraced and his stats took a nosedive. At the next turn, I besieged the nearest macedonian city, which was garrisoned by the army that had just defeated me, but they still had something like 2,000 men with them, all high quality units (i had managed to wipe out about half before my legion succumbed).

I had to fight about an hour long siege battle, very bloody, my full stack of legio primegenia was down to about 900 men by the end of it all, but I got the eagle back...needless to say I exterminated that city

My worst defeat was when I took the capital of the gauls. I though it would have been a cake walk but it was no where near it. The gauls put up the best defence I had ever seen. I lost everything. The entire legion was completly destroyed. My general died while he was surrounded by naked fanatics. I had lost one of my best legions.

Then in the next turn I sent another legion and sieged the city. ANd again they put up a good defence. But i had won. And I wasan't sure if I was to enslave the population or exterminate them. I rarely exterminate them but I had too avenage the lost legion so I did that. That was my worst defeat in S.P.Q.R.

The Siege of Rome, way way back before my savegame somehow got corrupted.

The drive to Rome cost me almost 2 full Legions or so, and I methodically knocked down all of the walls and towers and gatehouses Rome had.
Afterwards I assaulted with 3 Different Legions, all of which were defeated.
Then using 2nd Legion and my best General, Titus Asinius, I slowly clawed my way to the center of the City, where the final Praetorians were huddled in a defensive formation... brought up two batteries of Ballistae, and slaughtered them.
Titus died about 2 turns after of old age... I've never paid so high a price for a single city.
I really liked Xena's solution to alot of problems.

attacking the gladiator stack with a premarian legion in 6.1. before my hastati reached their heavy gladiator units, half my legion was already wiped out by their Cretan archers, which by the way wiped my equites out of the face of the earth in hand-to-hand fighting. everybody else was at the mercy of the gladiators. I ended up cannibalizing what was left of my shattered legion to reinforce the one up the Gallic front.

One SPQR legion (fully experiences and upgraded) took out three of my legions, two were not under my control.
