    Default character portraits

Is there any way to change a characters picture? I got very used to one I had for one of my generals and then something happened to a save file and i had to rollback to a much earlier save game. This time when he came of age, he had a really lame portrait and its driving me crazy! is there any way to change the pic?

I would like to change portraits too.

The Greek culture produces too many lame portraits of characters in all-concealing Corinthian helmets - an effect I like to call "The man in the iron mask syndrome" or for short "Helmet-heads." I'm tired of the "Doctor Doom" look and I'd like to see all my characters have human faces.

I am fairly sure there is a way to change the character portrait, but only if you can change a certain script file (i do not know which one it is)

This is really becoming a modding question so should probably be in the Workshop section. To view the portrait cards you need to have unpacked your .pak files.

@cobalt no you can't change the portrait used in a saved game. At least not in any practical manner - if you identify which one he is currently using and overwrite that file number (all 6 versions of it) then I guess he'd then look like your new version when you re-loaded game, but I doubt that's really worth the effort. The portraits are assigned by the game according seemingly to a set pattern at least at the beginning of the game - so if you got a different number of generals before your new one comes of age he'll get different portrait.

@Agathon, you can change the portrait set to include less portraits so you could delete the ones with helmets. There are 6 versions of each portrait in cards & portraits folders under dead, young and old sections. Whatever you do in one set you need to do same in others so everything ties up - though note, annoyingly the dead generals for the greek set don't tie up at the moment! Finished sets must all have same number of portraits in them and must be re-numbered sequentially starting at 000.tga. The easiest option for greeks would be to just use the Civilians sets which don't have helmets and invent a dead portrait for them. I know how to introduce revised set under -mod system am not 100% sure in normal RTW game, but I think you just create a rtw/data/UI/greek/portraits folder path to put new versions in.

and err, its nothing to do with script / text file in RTW, though I think Alex expansion is different.

If anyone really wants to fiddle check threads / tutorials in workshop section to see if its been explained before, and ask question there if you're missing anything.
