Man and you think playing has ERE is hard wait unitl you try WRE, atleast the east has a stable economy, happy cities, and doesnt take the full load of barbarian invasions the west gets.... my advice is to have an army in greece and just tough it out with the invasions, once the huns pass thatll be it for mayor barbarian invasions ... meanwhile expand into the rich sassanid territory..... then later take Italy and Carthage for your self....as far as diplomacy just renemder that your enemy's enemy is your friend, i also try to stay allied to the west just for historical reasons and sympathy.....

IMO, the ERE are one of the easiest campaigns in the game. Big empire, an advanced captial to start your conquest of EUrope, and many bridges to hold those meddlesome hordes.

Just take all the troops out of your cities apart from 1 or 2 liminatei, merge them together into a number of large armies, and kick some arse.

WRE is not that hard. It is just that you have a really really really bad start. I hate to say it but you should just abandon the areas that you really cannot hold and go back to the place with a good army and exterminate each and every one of them. As for the Huns, a good bridge battle always works for me.

Funnily enough im about halfway through my first ERE campaign on Hard/Hard and it is alot easier than the WRE campaign. I didnt have so many cities rebelling at the start, and i think i got REALLY lucky with the Hordes. Apart from the Roxoloni (or whatever they are bloody called!), they all made a bee-line for "Colonia Dacia" (Goths starting point) and have proceeded to kick the **** out of each other LOL

With a bit of painless re-ordering my whole empire is Christian (Apart from the islands like Kydonia). Try that on the WRE campaign ha ha.

Its 397 A.D. and i just recently took Salona and Ravenna after the Vandals pillaged there way through the WRE territory. For some bizarre reason the AI made a real both job of taking Ravenna back, so i stepped in. Didnt need much to get it up and running, and its already making me money back after a few years. Thats the secret to the ERE campign, keep the money rolling in . . . . . . .

Took advantage of the Alemanni and the Franks causing no end of grief and just took Rome, whether that was a mistake going to war with the WRE so early, only time will tell . . . . . .

Only played a few other turns sinc emy last post and im bumping into the a-typical RWT AI probs. I would have expected the wrath of god from the WRE, what with a full stack loitering around Mediolanum, but instead i have been left to my own devices, and somehow it has prioritised a very weak Saxon position as its main threat. Having said that, the Franks have a sizable chunk of ex-WRE settlements and they have just made an alliance together, so maybe i will be in trouble in a couple of turns. The Sassinids have virtually gvien up sinc ei took Hatra, and i might have to turn my attention towards them if i want to see a bit of action. Hows everyone else ERE campaigns going?

Usually its a good idea to declare war on the WRE fairly early, because you want some of their large territory before all of the barbarians take it.

I don't think I've ever played a campaign as ERE. Romans wearing purple? No thanks. Besides, I was never fond of the side history favors, so I played a long, enjoyable campaign as WRE.

Unless I'm just -really good-, which Im not, I think the difficulty of WRE is overrated. All you have to do is disband all the expensive units you don't need, and most of your navy (that has very little to fight against in the mediterranian) and redistribute the rest to rebelious settlements, lowering taxes in all, and just riding it out the revolts, taking back citys where neccisity. When its all over with, you will maintain every city you started with. After that, take the British Isles for some pocket money, and play diplomacy games with the barbarians, and post comastates, and archer filled armies at the river choke-points.

Bam, Romes now got a solid hold on the world again.

Also, the easiest way of staying allied with the ERE, is by leaving them alone, completely. I've noticed if you try and talk to them, they turn down most everything you propose, even breaking the alliance over something like map information...

After that, just pick a spot to conquer, and go at it methodically one at a time, never fighting a war on more then one frontier unless you start rolling in the cash...

E-Z Pie. Im sure the ERE Camp is the easiest faction in the game. You have Roman pro's without 80% of the cons.

P.S. when you go to war as WRE, exterminate every settlement you take, unless its a fat, unrebellious nugget. You already have enough garrisons to burn money on, and population as it is. When you go to war, its more to kill your competition, then to grow any stronger.
