I really liked this movie. Though its old it sets the standard for D-Day movies. It shows the Germans as humans and not evil killing machines, and it showcases the variety of people involved. Also it doesn't only show Americans, but also shows Canadians, Brits, and Free French forces that were involved in the attack.

First war movie I ever saw, and an excellent one at that. It really did set the standard for WWII movies.

10x better than Private Ryan. It was more of a documentary. If you liked that you will probably like "A Bridge Too Far"

One of the best WW2 films ever. Love this movie. Nice all star cast going on here. If you like this one make sure you also see The Big Red One. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080437/

I did love a Bridge Too Far.

These two movies, based on the books by Cornelius Ryan, are the most unbiased movies about WWII and should be the standard upon which all other movies on the subject should be based.

The only problem was it was too damn long....and too damn many characters.

I kept thinking..."oh it's that british guy again...wait no....that's the other british guy.....oh snap...these are canadians!" they had a RAF fighter pilot in the begining....then he somehow showed up at the end....killing another character who seemed to have been randomly placed in the movie(boots on wrong feet german)

I loved the movie, but I just thought it needed to stick to a less massive plot.

it looks kick ass for its age even. The humor is a little aloof though.

The guy with the bagpipes killed it for me.

Saving Private Ryan is 100 X cooler, intense, better, whatever. I mean this movie doesn't make you piss your pants with fear in the first 5 minutes of the movie. It's war not silliness.

The children of Doom...Doom's children. They told my lord the way to the mountain of power. They told him to throw down his sword and return to the earth...HA!! time enough for the earth in the grave.

Personally Cool lacks depth and quality. Private Ryan was damn good but not to the same standard as the old classics.

Saving Private is not only cool but has depth and quality. The classics are good but not Saving Private Ryan good.

I just favour the the realism and intensity of Saving Private Ryan over the glorification and silliness of the Longest day.

I like the fact that after seeing Saving private Ryan you feel sick about war and even hate it.
