Map making

I have a historical map I like but i want to edit it it wont let me edit it because it is named with a number instead of a letter so I renamed the map with letters and now it still wont let me edit it, what is the problem?

I'm not sure if there is enough information in your post to spot the problem. If you can change it but it won't let you save, look at the file details in explorer, right click the file name, click properties and make sure it doesn't have "read only" box clicked.

If not that what file extension does the map file have? and are you sure you are opening it in a graphics program capable of editing that type of file?
