    Default Siege battle tactics

Hello. I usually am pretty good at siege battles. But right now I have a gaul city under siege and I can only siege it for 1 turn cause two gaul armies are coming my way. Now this city is fully garrison i think it's 21 or 22 units in there. I have an experienced legion fighting them. Hastati principes etc.(i can't spell them right). Now what is the best method for winning this battle. i need this victory for I can have a foot hold into gaul.

    Thanks in advanced

i would retreat if i were you. you gotta pick your battles right. if by any chance you defeat the town garrison you'll only succeed in trapping your legion in the city walls. not sure this is what yo wanted, but that's what I'd do.

Yes I have consider that. But my third and fourth legion is going to block the other gaul armies. I believe the other gaul armies will retreat when I take over the city.

Don't be wimps guys... bring them on!!! Let the multiple armies attack your siege legion and confront them in open ground... just kidding

Actually to be successful in your siege battle send your archers/skirmishers first to draw the enemy fire. Follow them closely by your siege equipment manned by light infantry (hastatii). Focus on at least 2 break points and make sure to divert units away from enemy fire when the siege equipment catches fire.

Once they reach the wall and start fighting bring in some traiarii to support break points which are heavy fighting with your units on the loser's side At the same time move some of your principes to the break points which have no fighting or where your hastatii are wining and finish them off... Try to use scissors technique where the enemy is trapped in the middle fighting and your havies close in on their flanks Also bring your archers to the wall and pepper the enemy units at close range reducing their morale...

Take the gates as soon as possible and then bring all your reserve forces and cavalry fighting their way to the city square and to victory

When Im fighting the barbarians in their cities, I get most of their army on the main road, fight with them til they are exhausted and then charge in with my triarii and cavalry. They then rout and we pursue them right to the town square, killing most along the way, then the triarii finish the defenders of the square.

BTW it's impossible to have 21 or 22 units in an army/a garrison
You were confused because enemy army scroll is 9 units long, so actually there were 19 or 20 units in the garrison.
