Just to talk about both of them and cancer. I was being tongue and cheek.

I always thought Tony wore that yellow cancer bracelet to appease cancer survivors. I feel really bad now

poor tony snow, I hope he turns out to be okay. Has he announced his retirement as the white house press secretary yet?

Realistically though, we cant expect to get someone "Better". A good white house press secretary must be an oxymoron, I'm convinced they're a myth like unicorns and goblins.

Not exactly, he has colon cancer that has metastasized to the liver. That's different from liver cancer. But maybe I'm just being too picky.

Anyway, bad news. I don't like Tony Snow, but this is really a shame. Like in the case of Mrs. Edwards, any widespread metastasis complicates treatment greatly (in Edwards' case, making total remission impossible). The fact that this is a recurrent cancer that has spread to a couple of places (the pelvis as well as a major organ) is also not a good sign.

I remember hearing that stress can help bring on all types of illnesses, even cancer. Is there any validity to that statement, could his stressful job be adding to his health problems?

Cancer is a multifactorial disease, and thus it's very hard to attribute a single cause to it. Add to that the fact that each cancer type is unique, makes it even harder. Certain subtypes of colon cancer, which Tony Snow had initially, have an especially strong genetic/familial linkage. I'm not sure exactly which subtype he had, but it's more likely than not that the driving force behind his getting the disease was a result of genetics.

Stress can play a part; as was mentioned above, stress tends to moderately reduce the immune response, including to cancer cells. However, it's unlikely that this was a particularly big contributor to his development of the cancer. The immune system tends to not be particularly effective in getting rid of cancers with nasty genetic profiles (such as the familial adenomatous polyposis coli subtype of colon cancer), so disrupting immunity wouldn't make a huge difference.

I also hear that being cold + wet brings your immune system down.

Sounds like pansy talk to me though, my immune system pumps 350 on the bench press.
