    Default Total war and Vista and Win7

    My fave Mod was LTC but wasn't compatible with Vista. Huge letdown.

    Can someone please point me or create a list of Mods compatible with Vista?

    Thanks.

    Dahir,

    LTC does work with Vista. However, there are few things you have to do to get it to work.

    1.) Right-click on your SEGA folder, and click on "properties". In the this window, click on the "security" tab. You will see an "edit" button with the windows shield on it. Click on that and allow the administrator and other users listed there to alter files by ticking the first box that you see in the panel below the users. Press "apply" and "OK".

    2.) Now, go into your MTW2 main folder and edit the "landstoconquer.cfg" file. In it, you will see this:

    [features]
    mod = landstoconquer[video]
    widescreen=0
    [game]
    allusers=1

    Move "[video]" to the next line by pressing the enter key. It should now look like this:

    [features]
    mod = landstoconquer
    [video]
    widescreen=0
    [game]
    allusers=1

    Save the file. Hit the LTC icon, it should work fine.

    Now, the only other mod I've attempted to run since Vista is DLV. However, its installer does not function correctly with Vista. I have alerted the DLV crew to this.

    Note to modders: The installer utility "Clickteam Installer" is compatible with Vista and is very easy to use. I'd recommend moving to it since many people will be moving to Vista in the coming months.

    Cheers and good luck, Rouge

    Default LTC Gold and Windows Vista

    Howdy, long time lurker, first time poster and all that... Anyway, I was having problems running LTC Gold now that I've got a new laptop (Vista, Home Premium, 32 bit). I tried this...

    First off, even though I'd played a while with the random restart crashes (just saved often), the cfg file only had

    [features]
    mod = landstoconquer

    in it. I added the remaining stuff to see if it would help but it was to no avail, upon restarting the game and playing for but a few minutes (not even a turn) it crash-restarted again. And as for step one, it let me allow everyone but the CREATOR OWNER profile (though I tried it always came up with some Internet Explorer error...beats me). I know I meet the system reqs and all, so can anyone help me out? I hate to be that fool, but as my funds are limited this laptop is my first step up in a long (6+ years) time, so I am somewhat confused about all the new gadgetry, so to speak. Btw, I have Medieval 2 Gold, if that makes any difference. Thanks for the time and any possible assistance!

    Play the regular game a few turns, then install LTC and try again.

    Would this be for all mods or just this one?

    The info given is basically the same. In fact the info works on all folders and files.

    My first reaction you're missing part of Microsoft's updates including Vista service pack 1.

    I would suggest unistall the game, run a registry cleaner like ccleaner and it's free on their website, run windows update until it says there are no more updates, and then reinstall the game.

    Good luck.

    May I ask what kind of computer do you have? Is the dvd reader internal or external? Is the harddrive removable? Have you checked the dvds for scratches, finger prints and other assorted goodies? What error messages have you been getting? What other software, especially games do you have installed?

    All these questions have a bearing on the answers I can give so please bear with us.

    We have two of the same computers with slight differences.

    Inspiron 530s,Intel Core2 Duo processor E4500 (2.20GHz 800FSB) w/Dual Core Technology and 2MB cache

    2GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz

    my son's:
    256MB ATI RADEON HD 2400 XT Graphics w/DVI,Low Profile
    320GB Serial ATA 2 Hard Drive (7200RPM)

    mine:
    256MB ATI RADEON HD 2400 Pro Graphics,Low Profile

    250GB SATA II Hard Drive (7200RPM)

    I've tried the game on both, and haven't been able to get it to work. Game is new, and appears new w/o any sign of scatches, dirt, dust etc. both computers are just about a yr old (bought a few months apart).

    games:
    Rome Total War HAD worked on his computer and stopped working after something got messed up on his user profile. (makes me suspiious of the UAC issue.) We still have not been able to regain access to his old user profile although the photos on that profile do scroll through one of the google gadgets, so we know info is still there. (would LOVE direction on how to fix that as well, but it might be related with UAC noted as a problem by some posters here.)

    I'm going to go test out games to see which ones work on the computers and which don't anymore. (when he won't research a problem, I tell him its his problem! but this one was a b-day gift......so here I am!) :hmmm:

    I'll get the error messages down as well.

    thanks!!

    If you tried it on both machines and it refuses to install I am starting to think you have a bad dvd. Chances of two machines in the same house going bad is slim at best.

    As far as disabling the UAC, here is my reference: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...windows-vista/ and hopefully it helps. Even if not right now, earmark it it for future.

    If you have trouble accessing your son's user profile, and diabling the UAC doesn't help, I would advise contacting Dell support. If your warranty is still good, they owe you one.

    Hope this helps and keep in touch.

    I saw that quite a lot of us got this problem, as there's 4 or 5 topics already about this. I had the same problem but after spending almost hour I found solution, at there is it:

    first go to your folder option and make sure that you change settings so you'll be able to see all hidden folders and files.
    now go to 'users' folder, next double click on 'user' folder (the one that contains all documents, downloads etc). you'll see new hidden folder called 'AppData'. go there. there should be 3 subfolders. go to 'Local'. next folder that we're looking for is 'VirtualStore'. next again you'll see 3 folders. this time click on 'Program Files'. and depends where did you install your game you should be able to find folder. inside medieval2 folder there's another cfg file that you had to change. also this folder contains your save game and few other data. in my occasion i install medieval in games folder so my path is looking like this C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\ Games\Medieval2 Total War
    hope that helps you a little

    BTW that also could applied to your other games who are in this folder. Apparently system is putting all config and save files in this hidden folder and using them later.

    To administrators - maybe we can stick it somewhere people will be able to see this straight away, than looking at forum

    I saw this thread before, but still there's few other posts where poeple are still asking this question and looking for answer. That's why I deceided to open new one.
    I will make a shorcut from other one too, so hopefully that will help others

    To unhide hidden and system files and folders, here is the XP version: click start > control panel > folder options > view, scroll down until you find the line about hidden files and folders and check to have them shown. You'll probably prompted as to whether you want to and click yes. In Vista, some names may have changed a little but it's there.

    You get everything unhid and the user folder will be there.

    first go to your folder option and make sure that you change settings so you'll be able to see all hidden folders and files.
    now go to 'users' folder, next double click on 'user' folder (the one that contains all documents, downloads etc). you'll see new hidden folder called 'AppData'. go there. there should be 3 subfolders. go to 'Local'. next folder that we're looking for is 'VirtualStore'. next again you'll see 3 folders. this time click on 'Program Files'. and depends where did you install your game you should be able to find folder. inside medieval2 folder there's another cfg file that you had to change. also this folder contains your save game and few other data. in my occasion i install medieval in games folder so my path is looking like this C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\ Games\Medieval2 Total War
    hope that helps you a little

    BTW that also could applied to your other games who are in this folder. Apparently system is putting all config and save files in this hidden folder and using them later.

    To administrators - maybe we can stick it somewhere people will be able to see this straight away, than looking at forum

    I saw this thread before, but still there's few other posts where poeple are still asking this question and looking for answer. That's why I deceided to open new one.
    I will make a shorcut from other one too, so hopefully that will help others
