Ok now that Rome is ending, now that theres nothing left to watch on HBO until the sopranos start, I have been watching a bit of this showtime miniseries The Tudors. Its a miniseries in the same ilk as Rome, only everything is slightly subpar imo. The acting is subpar, the character development, even the sex is subpar. But a guy needs his historical miniseries fix.

Any fans of The Tudors here? If you have On Demand you can watch the first 2 episodes of it now.

She just gets naked? no sex? No name for her character? You don't mind that your wife was naked on national tv?

I didn't think it was bad, I like the middle ages but the show is centered around Henrys lovelife, which you have to admit...ain't a guys first interest when hes watching these types of shows. The character development was too rushed imo, they just plopped right into when henry is 20 something years old and already the king. No backstory, no dramatization of how he became king, no clue who the characters are or what their deal is...

Maybe itll get a bit better when theres some battles. So far its just hints of big battles but not much else.

Yes, I was meaning to ask if there was an update to this. God, I can't wait to watch this, even if it means I have to download the episodes.

Wait a moment, Rome is (has) ending? Oh no, there aren't many genuinely good television series these days. The only one I have left to watch is Battlestar: Galactica and Lost (though mostly because I want to see what happens).

Hmm is it a miniseries or a series? Look at showtime on demand now and it says season premiere oh well gonna click on it and watch it I guess!

*edit* Well watched the first ep...without spoiling it for anyone...not bad its obviously much slower pace compared to Rome (which of course most people are going to compare it to) the time period alone makes that necessary but political intrigue is going to make for a really good show imo. Not keen on Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Henry though, just doesnt fit but Sam Neill is in it and he rules. Also nice to see the guy from Last of the Mohicans Steven Waddington (he played the arrogant Maj Duncan) and does a nice job as an arrogant ass in the show.

Yeah I think its a miniseries...althouh admittedly, I dont know the difference between a series and a miniseries. A series is half hour episodes more than once a week and am iniseries is hour long episodes only once a week right? I think its the latter.

The politics can be interesting in the show, everyone knows that medieval british history is very interesting...but they rush all the politics they dont build up towarda a climax, theres not much drama.

Lord buckingham is a good example, if you havent watched the second episode yet, watch and tell me what you think of what happens to Lord Buckingham.

Yeah I cant disagree then after watching the second one, here I expected some major internal conflict to be played out over the series....so much for that.

Anybody catch the Tudors last night on Showtime? It's a heavy on the drama (at least the first episode was) but holds promise of greater things.

Imo, The Tudors is superior to Rome. I've found myself being pulled in much more than I did with Rome. Personally the acting is better, Sam Neill as Wolsey destroys everyone in Rome (I couldn't stand Octavian in season 2).
