Default SPQR + Windows Vista Troubles

    Hi, guys
I play SPQR 6.2, properly installed on RTW 1.5, the platform being Windows Vista 32bit Ultimate.

The hardware (if it matters) is: Ati X1950Pro with catalyst 7.2, Core 2 Duo processor

I experience CTDs each time I fight a battle on some given squares - to mention 2 - Cicily's upper-right corner and the one just east of Siracuse. The CDT takes place no matter how many times i load and replay the battle, and immediately after the battle is over.

Can someone help me? Is it more probable that this is a Vista issue rather than SPQR?

Thank you in advance for any tips and solutions

I would say this is a Vista Issue, you do KNOW that NONE of the old games are sure to work right with the NEW OS?

I just bought a new machine last week and avoided getting one with Vista specifically because I was afraid of compatibily issues. I'll stick with XP until I have no choice.

SPQR is running great on the new machine.

I am too addicted to Vista already so I prefer to stay with it, for good or bad
But I put the good old XP on another partition so I can dual-boot and choose XP for RTW and Vista for everything else

p.s. Too bad ATI's newest 7.3 driver (released a couple of hours ago) didn't solve the problem. It seems no institution other than the Creative Assembly can fix it, but I don't think they're up to a new RTW patch. Now all power is directed to medieval 2. And somehow, I can't fit into that game, it's not like Rome. I suppose it's like this with many of you guys

Funny Most IT people I know are staying Clear of Vista. Mainly because microcrap is trying to control too much of our lives. I really wouldnt doubt if there is some sort of tracking and monitoring built into the software that works with NSA, CIA, or Corporate marking. lol

This thread is going a little bit off topic, but still..

When you first install Vista, you notice only the graphics interface changes - Aero, the folder views, Control panel innovations, etc..

However, after you've spent some amount of time with it, you start to get accustomed to its interface and start to notice the real improvements - namely the improved communication with the memory and I/O system. SuperFetch caches all applications I use in the free RAM so they load immediately upon request, indexing works great and Search returns results in a fraction of a second.

For good or bad, in a year everyone will be with Vista. The moment Crysis hits the shelves, all folks will switch to DX10 and there will be no turning back. But until RTW becomes obsolete, I'll have an XP partition

And when will SPQR become obsolete? The battle mechanics are better than M2TW's and you can have twice as many troops on the field. It will be a while

Vista will sure make it an interesting world, since you need like 2g of ram just to run it. All I've heard is horror stories, it looks pretty, but that's about it.

Here is an interesting article, wonder if this will catch on?

I have Vista Business 32-bit and both RTW vanilla and SPQR run perfectly. Did you have RTW and SPQR installed on your PC before you upgraded? If so,h ave you tries uninstalling RTW and SPQR and reinstalling
