    Default Total war performance

I have been trying to run the game on a 512mb, P4 laptop with 128mb ATI mobility chipset. Needless to say, it's not running particularly well.

I am going to upgrade, and I have a choice between 4 Nvidia graphics cards with a new PC. They are:

    320MB 8800GTS
    640MB 8800GTS
    768MB 8800GTX

and if I get a laptop:

    512MB 7950GTX

Would you recommend one in particular, or are they all capable of running the game smoothly on top possible video settings.

    Thanks for your help.

They're all capable of running the game on the highest settings. Get one of the 8 series though, as they're going to be able to run direct x 10.

Seconded. You're better off with a desktop for gaming. Keep the laptop for older games (I use mine for emulation), surfing and all those other things. It's nice to have, but a desktop is the best way to go for gaming, imho.

I bought a 320MB 8800GTS to save money so I could get a second one later and then connect the two buggers together. If you have the money, then go for the money card. Personally, I refuse to pay $500+ for a card.
