Default What's the best DVD burning suftware?

    Hi,
I'm looking for software to use with my 16X DVD burner.
So far I've always used Nero, which came with my drive.
But I'm sure there must be something better by now.

    So:
What burning software do you use?
    What else have you tried?
    Any recommendation?

Are there any good free (open source?) programs?

Currently I'm trying CDBurnerXp, which looks alright so far but for some reason I can't select higher burning speed than 12X.

You could always download a bootlegged copy of a commercial software package, not that I endorse illegal file downloading. I doubt if you're looking for free software that you'll find better than Nero.

I'd also like to know some decent names of DVD burning software.

You should try Alcohol 120% (http://www.alcohol-soft.com/). Its a nice program, and easy to use, that is much better imo than Nero. Its ideal for making backups of your CD's to your computer. Download the free trial of the web and see for yourself if its any good .

    Well, my reasoning was:
    Linux is better than Windows.
    Firefox is better than IE.
    Foxit is better than Adobe.
    etc. etc.
So I was expecting a free (open-source) DVD burner that was better than commercial programs.

    I'm not anti-Nero, btw.
    I think it's a good program.
But I don't really like the interface, and a few minor annoying things it did.

I'm going to try alcohol 120% next.
And if I don't like it I'll probably go back to Nero.

    Thanks for the replies.

If you want to make legal backups of your games I use Alcohol 120%, it’s handy because you can add as many virtual drives as you want, but I prefer to use this in connections with Daemon Tools. For everything else I use Nero, I know you wanted alternatives but Nero is easy to use, it works and you can do pretty much anything you want with it.

If you really don’t want to use Nero you can use the free in built CD burning tools in XP.

Two Programs i use are ImgBurn

ImgBurn enables you to burn most types of DVD/CD images, including .iso, .nrg, .bin, .img and others. The program offers direct support for many of the latest CD/DVD writers. In addition to writing of images, you can also use the software to build your own ISO images from files and folders of your choice. ImgBurn includes a variety of advanced features to deal with dual layer DVDs, create DVD folder structures and more.

And Nero for all other stuff

Foxit is better than Adobe? Ehhhh, NO!

If that were the case, why do so many people who's professions lie in: digital photography, video editing, sound editing & production, graphic design, film post-production and website design go for adobe products?

I completely agree that FireFox is much better than IE (both for font-end web developers and end-users). Linux may be better in some areas than windows, however, just because you need a Windows OS to game certainly does not make it 'better'.

Foxit - "PDF READER" is miles better then Adobe PDF Reader i was not talking about photo editing next time read more carefully

That's one of benefits of windows, people don't care about what OS it is. Just so it can play games and be easy to use.

    Windows - Average Joe
    Mac - Proffessional
Linux - Anybody who wants fast, safe operating system
