Default BI Crashes / Plus to play also just BI crashes.

    Hi
BI crashes when trying to start it.
I tryed the install again RS over the old one.
    RTW exe works with RS.
but when trying BI it crashes. I tryed the shortcut with its new target told here and got a message about heavy horse. lolol

Questions are why after installing the RS again without unistalling it
i still have my saved campaigns? would it not over write it?

Also why will not my BI work? For RS or the BI game itself.
    thanks for the help

    Thanks Jimexander !!
That was too easy! RS works great with the BI disk.
now is there a way to play with the B. I ? Not R.S. ?
in other words to play that time pd. 400 a.d. late romans and barbarians.
We love Bi also that time period.
    thanks again

Yes, but you'd have to install it to a different directory for now. BI and RTW share a number of files, and because Roma Surrecturm has changed them, BI doesn't work right. One of these days I'm going to try and fix that, but I just haven't had time, and it's hard to know what people have done to BI anyway.

What I do so I can still use vanilla (and all mod folder mods) is before I installed RS (i.e. on a clean 1.5 install with no other mods) I made a copy of my data folder and called it data - orig then I installed RS into the data folder. When I want to use vanilla I change the folder names so that the data folder has the unmodified data content.

OK what I said about the data folder was unclear, after creating the copy of the data folder in my Rome - Total War directory I will have two folders:

    data
    data - orig

Install Roma Surrectum into the data folder.

If you run Rome at this point (either with the rtw exe or the bi exe with the mod switch) you will run Roma Surrectum.

To run vanilla rtw or vanilla bi (or mod folder mods) do the following in order:

    1) rename folder data to data - rs
    2) rename folder data - orig to data

Then run executable of choice. To switch back to Roma Surrectum do these step in reverse.

hmmmm. iam still a little unclear.
    sorry for these easy questions.
so you dont install rs into the rtw folder but in data now?
please give a little more steps for the next step for running bi.
trying to understand the data and data org.
    just want to be sure.
is just changing 1 to 2 and 2 to one will work?
the two datas? from data rs 1 to data orig. 2
then 1 to orig. and 2 to rs ?
    am i clear on this?

    thanks

    installed rome clean and BI
    .
make a new copy of data
    1# data
    2#data - orig ( does spaces make a diff. ?)
installed RS into the 1# data not the copy ( was that correct?
I loaded the game with BI hit play, only vanilla showed up in both games.
same with RTW. What happened to RS ?
I loaded RS into Data from RTW.
What is the modd switch ? Do i need that?

i tryed also to rename 2# data - orig to just data ( and it said i cannot rename this if a perosn or program is useing it. What does that mean?

now another question is when runninthe Ui files
that DVK saif for us to do everytime.
it asked what location! I typed d for data since its going into data
    right? So can you help?
Or should i wait until you men add this on. iam not a computer wiz.
    thanks

Ok, this is going to make some work for you, but this is really the only way to do this right, and you'll have to start over.

The best way to do this is to install a fresh copy of RTW BI. Patch it to v1.6.
Now, make a directory called 'RomaSurr_BI' or something like that. Copy into this folder everything EXCEPT the 'BI' folder from your install of Barbarian Invasion. Then install Roma Surrectum into that. Because there is no BI folder in there, it will just automatically run RS, and you'll be using the BI.exe.

The reason you have to do this is because BI shares several files with the normal RTW....the problem areas being 'descr_mount.txt' and a few others. These were changed for Roma Surrectum, with some things removed. The result is that this breaks BI.

Don't install RS into the data folder (if you look in your data folder, the one for RS it now has a second data folder inside of it) install RS as per the instructions.

( i made a folder and copyed data info into it.
    When trying to unistall
    1# bi
    2 RTW
It left this 2nd dta folder and would not let me delete it.
Even after unistalling all of BI and RTW.

There isn't much to it, after you patch to 1.5 but before you install RS make a copy of your data folder (I call mine data-orig), install RS as normal.

When you want to switch to vanilla rtw or vanilla bi or a mod folder mod do the folder renaming I mention earlier in this thread. The folder renaming has nothing to do with the installation, it is just for running rtw/bi without RS installed.

Install Roma Surrectum into the data folder

this is from what you said and it confused me.
So install rtw with b.i 1.6
Then make a copy of data?
    Please give steps
    i need to be sure.
Sorry for this other post but i forgot to add something i ask you.

also how do you get rid of your copy?
its write protected the message read this file you cantnot delete
its either runing by a person or program.
Close all programs and try again.
    What does that mean?
    thanks.

When you install RS it will install it into the data directory (which is what I was saying) even though you give it /Rome - Total War directory as the install location.

If you are getting the message

its write protected the message read this file you cantnot delete
its either runing by a person or program.
Close all programs and try again.
This means that some program has that file open and because it is open it cannot be edited, overwritten, or deleted or that the file is read-only. If the file is not read-only and you closed all applications and it doesn't get rid of this message you'll need to reboot your computer to free up all system resources. If the file is read-only you'll have to make it non-read only. Our installers are designed to override read-only files so the file being read only shouldn't be the problem.

Thanks when it comes to instructions. I need a step by step not a assume !
lol . Youhave been very helpfull and i thank you!. In my business i make sure the people
working for us understand fully what we want.
Let me show you what i have learned, to see if it is correct. ok?

    1. install RTW and BI
    2. make a copy of data name it data-orig from the RTW not bi ? Because bi shares it files with RTW now.
    3. Install RS into RTW folder.( Same instuctions as before.
    4. i have now two datas . Correct? one with rs the other with just RTW/BI
    5. To run RS leave it alone!
    6. to run BI or RTW vinalla / change
data 1# to data - rs
    data-orig. 2 to data.
    and thats it.
    And change it over to
    1# data
    2. data - orig.

thanks again let me know if this correct.

That looks correct, for step 3 where you install RS into RTW folder make sure you follow all the instructions that we've posted, so don't forget to run the .bat files the instructions tell you to.
