I started to go through the list of what I agreed with, have never played, etc., and I noticed that I've barely played any of them.

I'm a very selective veteran of gaming, I'd say.

I was also highly impressed that they had Tie Fighter that high. I was disappointed, as well, that they did not have Jedi Knight (or Dark Forces).

I look more into such lists to bring back memories of the games than agreeing with them--I have forgotten so many of the games I have played, it is good to refresh my memory. There will always be games people think should be replaced (I'll never admit that StarCraft is even worthy of the top 100, but I didn't grow up with it--I grew up playing Homeworld, AoE2:AoK, and Jedi Knight on the internet, or playing SW: Rebellion, for my RTS-fix; my friends either played only SC, or never played SC--not many in-between)

Gotta love Apocalypse as well, that game kept me playing like there was no tomorrow.

To bad the Gollop brothers lost the right to the X-com series, X-com didn't deserved to put out of its ''oh my god, this game is the sickest most succesful game ever produced'' misery.

Momento mori X-com, hello UFO: Extraterrestials, you are looking damn semi sexy.

The guys at IGN appear to be very young, so they didn't play the original and really revoultionary predecessors of all the sequels that are in the list...

[edit]: e.g. RTW shouldn't be on that list - although I liked MTW better, I think the credit for a new concept - allmost genre - goes to STW. Hl2?? Pfft - that one goes to wolfenstein 3d. Why Oblivion? Daggerfall despite all of its faults was more revoultionary - I'd rather pick morrowind, although I liked Oblivion a lot. Why BG2? BG1 revived a dead genre all of its own - not its sequel - etc...etc...

    For real.

Myself, I laughed at some of the list. But its such a subjective type of list.

Also, it depends on style. Are you doing greatest games at the time of release or all time? Most great games hold up, but sometimes the sequel is better overall, though not per release time. Take the TW series, which most of us know well. The best game, if you were going to tell someone to pick a one of them, is probably MTW2. Its just the best. MTW was better than RTW in many ways, though RTW was better in "game ratings" ways, with its ease of us, 3-d battlefield and campaign maps, and the whole thing. MTW2 came in and improved on all of that, making it better than RTW, but not per release time where the RTW stuff was old in MTW2.

This list is 1000 miles away from being accurate .It main principle is perhaps: Let's praise our games !

I only agree with Deus Ex, Grim Fandango, System Shock 2, Half Life 2, Baldur's Gate 2, Starcraft, Tie Fighter and X-Com 1.
I would exchange Fallout 1 for Fallout 2 and put that in the list instead.
Planescape Torment had to be in there somewhere but isn't........
Its missing some things, most notibly Wing Commander which should be around Tie Fighter, and Master of Orion 2.

And why isn't Alpha Centauri on there? Every site bascially rates it as the best TBS game ever.... and it probably is.

No fallout 2 either.... i curse IGN for that, lol.

I like X-Com at #1 but that seems to be more of a "I demand a sequel" rank, though it is a top 10 game i dont think its #1.

edit: This guy is obviously not a computer RPG fan otherwise Planescape Torment would be in the top 10 along with BG2 and Fallout 2 ..... FO2 is leaps and bounds better than 1 and most would agree.
