Try in descr_events.txt (found in the data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign folder). You should be able to comment out (place ; 's in front of each line of text) the lines like so:

;event historic gunpowder_discovered

;movie event/gunpowder_invented.bik

and

; ------------ CORE GAME EVENT --------------
;event historic timurids_invasion_warn
;date 288 304

Don't bother changing the timurids_invasion_warn code found near the top of the file under test cases, since it is already commented out - the one you need to change is farther down.
