    Default coming back for nostalgia

    hi everyone, hi LT!

i've been away for a while now. started playing civ4, then got busy with other things in life.

now i'm feeling nostalgic and thinking about firing up SPQR again for a whirl. looks like things have moved on quite a bit since i was last here, almost one year ago.

back then, the garrisson script didn't have 4TPY. may i ask what are the benefits of this new addition? how does it affect the campaign? just curious.

btw, i've read that EB managed to automate their script somehow. is it really that hard to implement the same thing here in SPQR?

in the case i want only one and not the other, is there a way to separate the garrisson script from the 4TPY?

ok, well, guess i answered my own question about the effect of 4TPY. i'll just write it here for the sake of others wanting to know as well

(although i still have some follow-up questions... LT..?)

seems like the main effect of 4TPY is that your characters don't age so quickly. "historical time" progresses quite slow, however. although i've just started, doesn't this mean that i'll be getting the marian reforms even earlier "historically" (date-wise) than vanilla 1.5, which was already usually too early on anyway? although granted, i'll be getting to use my pre-marian troops longer, which i suppose was partially the intent...?

this brings up a related question though - won't this make other historical events happen earlier, since it's the # of turns which are counted and not the actual year/displayed date? won't this also half the window of opportunity for the unique ancilliaries?

as for separating the garrison and 4TPY functions, i think i managed to do that. i don't plan on blitzing, and sieges were tedious affairs anyway - especially considering the horrible AI pathfinding in cities, especially with huge unit sizes.

i'm thinking of making it a 3TPY... i dunno, three "summers" just seems kinda weird if my above concerns about historical events/ancilliaries are true, i suppose this might alleviate that. :hmmm:

Perhaps by deleting the undesired one.

that's correct.... u just need to edit SPQR_script.txt file located in "C:\Program Files\Activision\SPQR 6.2 - Total War\Data\scripts" and delete everything between but not including "script" and "console_command date -240" statements. This will remove only the "Garrison" bit from the script

PS- remember to backup the original file before modifying it

Or to make it easier instead of doing all that and having to reinstall everything if you want the full script back. Just change the end date in the imperial campaign and bam you have as many turns as you want. Only downside is your generals ect still age as fast.

OK, and if I want to do contrary and delete 4TPY (console_command date -240.. ), leaving all the rest, then garrison script is not working. can someone help please?
