Default Any mods that don't need BI?

Hey all, I've played the vanilla Rome for ages, then played M2TW for quite some time. I only learned of the modding community behind the TW games recently...

So...are there any mods I can play without having BI? I'd like to jump right into a more immersive game if possible...

Also what patch is Rome on now?

Or do I just have to get the Gold Rome Edition...

    Cheers

If you go to the Rome:TW Hosted Modifications forum on this website, you'll find a list of minor mods and major mods. Minor mods only change a couple aspects of the game, and, ergo, change the game much less but still make the game better in their respective ways. Major mods redo nearly if not everything, including unit skins as well as scripts and all that stuff that would probably take a long time. If you're looking for realism, go Europa Barbororum (though it's complicated to play at first and it's still a beta), or Rome: Total Realism (less in depth I would say, but easier to pick up). If you're looking for epic battles (literally full stack battles every turn), go for SPQR: Total War. I'm currently playing Terrae Expugnandae by Lusted, which isn't very realistic (nor does it try to be), but IMO provides the best gameplay. Though I haven't played it yet, Darthmod reputedly and purportedly enhances AI behavior during battles and campaign map maneuvering, though I'm not sure about it's realism aspect.

All in all, you'll have to lurk through each of the mods' respective forums and find what has potential to fit your tastes. Whether realism, gameplay, difficulty, or epicness, you'll probably find what you're looking for; we have a great modding community.

Rome: TW is, atm, patched to 1.5 I believe. You'll have to patch it to 1.3 FIRST though before patching to 1.5. Rome: Total Realism is made to 1.2. Other than that and perhaps some other mods I haven't played, all mods play on 1.5. Check out their FAQs.

    - try SPQR if you like battles (lots of them and very aggressive)
    - try RTR if you like battles and campaigns (plus new version out soon)
    - try EB if you like campaigns and battles (plus historic acuracy)

from what i have heard, don't get the gold edition - people seem to have lots of trouble with it. Just get the most recent patch (1.5)

SPQR has a very fun roman campaign not just battles. Of course the two go hand in hand.

Rome is at patch 1.5.If you plan on downloading it you'll have to get 1.3 first then 1.5.
