    I don't see a poll...

Either way I enjoyed both movies. However Gladiator was a completely different style of movie from 300.

And we will keep talking about 300 because it isn't our fault it hasn't been released in the UK yet.

And now there is a poll.

    It wasn't all that.

I think the movie was awful. I couldn't even look at the whole thing. It looked very much like something produced by WCW(World Championship Wrestling)...

Bad acting. Poorly written. Just a bad movie.

It could've been so much better.

If you like good acting, well directed well written movies...you will not like 300.

If you could care less about acting or if a movie is well written and simply want to see action. You'll like 300.

    __________
I just remembered some more scenes from that movie......that movie sucked like sh(**)...the elephants, rhinos and...who was it? Xerxes? ...

Huh? You either extrapolate or you estimate...

I won't vote though, for two reasons:

1st - they don't compare. One is the tale of a man who has lost everything and only wishes to rejoin his family and the other is a tale of bravery and loyalty against insurmountable odds. If anything, both are good.

2nd - this whole batch of 300-related threads is getting silly.

    I agree wholeheartedly.
    Though, for dramatic purposes....

That was a pretty crappy joke.

Gladiator was by far the more intelligent movie, but 300 was just as entertaining. Plus 300 had abs. Lots of abs.

Not a good comparison since different styles of movies, from sheer action/fun movie pov 300 wins hands down while from a story point of view Gladiator wins easily. Both are easily among the best of the types of movies they are when it comes to 'fake' historical epics.

Extrapolate: to infer (an unknown) from something that is known; conjecture.

Estimate: to form an approximate judgement or opinion regarding the worth, amount, size, weight, etc.

You either estimate or you extrapolate. You either extrapolate, based on opinion, if the movie is good, bad, etc, or you estimate (though the term doesn't seem to apply really well here) based on opinion. You don't estimate based on a extrapolation.

But I used the combination of two to infer the stats(estimation) based on your views(the known quantity, thereafter). There's nothing wrong with it...

I saw Gladiator 3x at the theater, and have watched it probably another 5 or 6 times at home. Many times during a WoW raid, fighting a tough boss where the result could go either way, I will yell out "Unleash HELL!"

300 was a good movie, but I have absolutely no desire to see it again soon.

I doubt I will ever see Gladiator too many times. Next to Last of the Mohicans, it is my favorite movie of all time.

I haven't seen 300 yet, but I plan to this weekend. In the mean time, I think that Gladiator is better, besides, its also has more drama, and thats a good thing. But I think I will like 300 about the same as Gladiator when I go to see it!

300 was a very entertaining film, but Gladiator was far superior. Better acting, better storyline, far better dialogue. Compare:

All he dreamed off was not some sort of freedom, all he wanted was to return home to his long-awaited reunion with wife and son, regardless of whether it would take place in this world or the next.

Eric, I must disagree with you.
    Different, yes, better, no.
As you said, "[Maximus] was a hero and family man, His code was strength and honour, but his motivation was hearth and home"; Leonidas isn't a simple commander, he is King of Sparta; more than that, he also has love for his house but as King he think not only in terms of his sole house but of his Kingdom.
As for the "some sort of freedom", Maximus strived to be a honorable man, and so did Leonidas, the difference being that Maximus a simple general, whose task if you remember was to suppress the germanic barbarians, while Leonidas was fighting for their (the Spartans) independence and freedom from enslavement.
Again, I don't think one character is better than the other, they are different, not only in status but also in role.

Uh...Maximus wasn't just a general. Remember that he was tied into possibly being the next EMPEROR of Rome. Yeah, he was simple, but so was Leonidas in 300. They were both simple men with a family and they both had to fight to save them. Maximus had to stand up for himself and the wrongs of Commodus, a no small feat. AND, he almost escaped and brought back an army to take Rome. Maximus wasn't as simple as you think. Leonidas was simple as well. The Spartan life was much simpler than that of say, the Athenians.

300 is definetly more entertaining visually.

I wouldn't really compare them, they seem to be in two seperate catagories to me.

As for the dialog. You did give 300 a really bad rap with the quote. There was a lot of narration that made his exclamation mean more.

300 was narrated well. The dialog was excellent to an action movie as well. Gladiator was more drama than 300 and thus had more dialog. 300 talked about the events leading up to the battle and then through you right into an epic battle.
