    Default DX 10 Compatable Motherboard?

Is it possible to buy a motherboard that supports core2 duo yet directX 10 will not work (or support DX10's features) ? I'm going to start upgrading my computer soon and my goal is to have a vista based system with C2D processor and a nividia 8800 card and I want to be able to take full advantage of DX10 for when games like Crysis start hitting the shelves. I heard someone on another forum complain that he had a C2D and a 8800 but his MOTHERBOARD didn't support DirectX 10... I didn't know that was some I should worry about...

Any advise or knowledge on the subject would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

As far as i know all youll need is a PCI-Express slot spare, a DX10 compatible video card, and a fairly powerful PSU (and vista) to support DX10 games.

Someone correct me if im wrong though.

Correct. If the motherboard is compatible with DX10-card, there should be no problem. If it doesn't work, the mobo must be really crappy, although I don't see how it could possibly affect DX.:hmmm:

All you need is a PCI-E slot and your board will run fine with dx10 assuming the rest of your hardware is up to scratch.

Yer defintly get a better one, Good ones are the Asus p5n-32 or the GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3, both are excellent core 2 duo platforms and are very good overclockers.

i have never heard of that brand before. There are alot of better alternatives with more features and are not really that expensive. Asus p5Bs are a good choice and have great overclocking ability. You should wait a bit, the Ati Dx10 card shouldn't be that far off.

My rig will run directx 10 but I refuse to by that POS vista os. Does anyone know why vista will be the only platform capable of running dx10 software? I thought it all had to do with the hardware your running.

DX10 is imbedded into the Vista OS, they are inseperable. You cannot have one without the other....

No, Bill Gates uses his sorcery to make sure you can't unless you have vista. He's level 25 and maxed out on magic stats, so I'd be careful, you might want to train up in the planes of Oblivion before going up against him. But whatever, its your funeral....

That's the most rational answer anyways.

Thanks for the advise guys. Here's the thing, I will not have any need for SLI or Crossfire and I will not be overclocking. (no need to try and talk me into overclocking either. I overclocked a video card once and two weeks later it fried and I was out $300. I like my warranties to be valid) so with that in mind, can anyone recommend a board that has a reasonable price?? I don't want to pay for and extra PCI-E slot I wont use and overclocking abilities I don't need.

still get a GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 it's cheap and good, its about $120 i think. Anything cheaper than $90 and your looking at components that are not very well built.

There is also nothing wrong with overclocking if your sensible, such wasted potential to buy a C2D and leave it at stock when they are capable of much higher clockspeeds with very little effort.

Pfft overclocking is fine, they cant actually tell if its been overclocked after it breaks - my flat mate just sent his back and got it replaced with an even better card since they were out of stock on his old one..

Admittedly though they did take about a month to get back to him

its very hard to fry a C2D anyway since they are desinged to underclock themselves if they start to overheat.

Ive just built a core2 PC for the very same reason , well I say recently about 4months which is a long time in technology terms these days so this mboard might be cheaper now

    I got a - Abit AB9 Pro Intel 965 Core 2 Duo for £80
its an excellent board great overclocking features for the average user, its got 9 sata ports plus an E-Sata at the back , who in the world has 9 sata drives.

Also got 1gig of dual channel DDr2 PC6400 ram £75
    and I have a GeForce 7900GT/GTO
when DX10 cards get cheaper soon I will replace it.

Now I am very impressed with this system , but many games the improvements have been minimal from my old AMD643500
I found out its because the games/software have to have support for Dual Core written in Oblivon does and that really does fly now , but Im not sure if MTW2 has

I'm sure the point is most games to come out in the future will support dual core and take advantage of DX10.

Yes they will , but from my perspective I think I was sold by Intels marketing drive/hype a but too much
    When I bought my Core2 , I also seen a AMD64 4000oem version for 59£
which was bloody cheap , I could have bought that and squeezed an extra 6-8 months out of my AMD64 set up waited till say June and been able to get a better Core2+mb or the same one cheaper , but I am stuck with what I have now for the foreseeable future.
I do like my new system build and dual or quad cores are the future
but as far as medieval2 goes my old system which was
    AMD64 3500 venice , 2 Gigs 3200 ram + geforce 7900GT
gave just about the same performance
but for Oblivion the performance gains , well I was speechless it really is that much faster.
I would recommend the motherboard I have Abit9pro they support 8gig of ram & quad core as well so they have plenty upgrade options
