What is your opinion on Country music? I personally love it...

My favorite country musician right now is Luke Stricklin, who had his start in Baghdad.

There are many misconceptions about country music, I will move to dispel if you bring them up.

Country has become a bubbly pop cry in my beer ******** genre and deserves to be destroyed.

It's the only form of music that I can't stand (besides rap and screamo/death metal)

Country is the only type of music that I like.
As a teenager, I was taken to various houses and flats above takeaways in the north of England, to be beaten, tortured and raped over 100 times. I was called a “white slag” and “white ****” as they beat me.

A few Country songs to attack the stereotypes:
Does that make me bad? - Luke Stricklin

I go to church, but I drink beer,
I hate cats I like dogs and I hunt deer
And I love my wife, ah but I’m not blind
I might take a second look at a pretty girl
    When she walks by

    Chorus
    Does that make me bad
    Does that make me wrong
And do you think less of me
Now that I’ve told you what I thought
If politically incorrect what the heck
My point of view makes you mad
    Does that make be bad

I think country singers ought to shut up and sing
But I hope they frick and fry Saddam Hussain
I’m sick and tired of reality shows
And I think you should ought learn a little English
If you make America your home

    Chorus

    Bridge
    Everybody’s got opinions friend
So we don’t have to fight
And just because they think their minds
    The only ones that right

It’s politically incorrect but what the heck
My point of view makes you mad
    Does that make me bad
That song describes how being politically incorrect is sometimes demonised by people. It asks if holding controversial views makes you a bad person.

American by God's Amazing Grace - Luke Sticklin
Bottom of my boots sure are gettin' worn
there's a lot of holes in this faded uniform
My hands are black with dirt and so is my face
I aint never been to hell
but it couldn't be any worse than this place.
Tell my wife don't worry 'cause I know what to do
it makes you feel better sometimes, but don't know if it's true.
I know if I die it's just my time to go
but I pray to God every day that I may get back home.

Well when you've seen what I've seen
    things don't seem so bad
quit worrying 'bout what you aint got, thank God for what you have
'Cause I could be raising my family in this place
but I was born an American
    by Gods Amazing Grace.

For the last twelve months I've had a new address
the neighborhood smells like sewerage and the streets are lined with trash.
You never know what's gonna be the next thing to explode
but unlike these people, I have another home.
It breaks my heart to see these kids out on the streets
walking barefoot through the trash, diggin' for something to eat.
I give them what I got, just to let them know I care
and I thank God it's not my son that's standing there.

Well when you've seen what I've seen
    things don't seem so bad
quit worrying 'bout what you aint got, thank God for what you have
'Cause I could be raising my family in this place
but I was born an American
    by Gods Amazing Grace.

You want to talk about it, you better keep it short
cause I got a lot of lost time I gotta make up for.
Really don't care why Bush went in to Iraq
I know what I done there and I'm damn sure proud of that.
You got somethin' bad to say about the USA
you better save it for different ears 'less you want to crawl away.
And I laugh in your face when you say you've got it bad
until you've spent some time on the streets of Baghdad

Well when you've seen what I've seen
    things don't seem so bad
quit worrying 'bout what you aint got, thank God for what you have
'Cause you could be raising your family in this place
but you were born in America, By God's Amazing Grace!!!!
This song, written and first recorded in Baghdad, describes how Americans have it so well compared to many people yet still complain.

A Good Man - Emerson Drive
don't need a whole lot of money
But I wouldn't turn the lottery down
I just need a little green in my pocket
So I can buy my buddies a round
All I want is a place to lay my head
With the woman I love lyin' in my bed
    Kind of understated
    My dreams aren't that complicated

    Chorus:
I wanna be the one, when all is said and done
Who lived a good life, loved a good wife
(And) Always helped someone in trouble
On the day they lay me down
    (I) Want everyone to gather around and say
He was a father, brother, neighbor and a friend
    He was a good man

I used to dream of being a rock star
And seeing the world in style
Used to dream of having a fast car
    And driving that miracle mile
But I've heard tell, those streets aren't paved in gold
They're full of potholes and empty souls
    Who never learned
Love is something you've gotta earn

    (Repeat chorus)

When I'm gone, I want to leave a legacy
Of love and laughs and honesty
    Behind me, behind me

    (Repeat chorus)

Yeah, I wanna be a good man
    A father, a brother, a neighbor and a friend
I wanna be a good man
This song places the virtue of being a good person over being rich or famous. Many country songs attack the materialism omnipresent in America, but does not advocate social change rather individual decision.

Alyssa Lies - Jason Michael Carrol
My little girl met a new friend,
    just the other day,
    on the playground at school
between the tires and the swings

But she came home with tear-filled eyes,
and she said to me "Daddy, Alyssa lies"

Well I just brushed it off at first,
'cause I didn't know how much my little girl had been hurt
or the things she had seen.
I wasn't ready when I said "You can tell me"

    and she said...

    "Alyssa lies to the classroom,
    Alyssa lies everyday at school,
    Alyssa lies to the teachers
as she tries to cover every bruise"

My little girl laid her head down that night to go to sleep.
As I stepped out the room, I heard her say a prayer so soft and sweet
"God bless my mom and my Dad
    and my new friend, Alyssa
*oh*I know she needs you bad

Because Alyssa lies to the classroom,
    Alyssa lies everyday at school,
    Alyssa lies to the teachers
as she tries to cover every bruise"

    (bridge)

I had the worst night of sleep in years
as I tried to think of a way to calm her fears
I knew just what it was I had to do *I knew exactly what I had to do*
but when we got to school on Monday I heard the news

My little girl asked me why everybody looked so sad
the lump in my throat grew bigger
with every question that she asked.
Until I felt the tears run down my face
and I told her that Alyssa wouldn't be at school today

'Cause she doesn't lie in the classroom
she doesn't lie anymore at school
    Alyssa lies with Jesus
because there's nothin' anyone would do

Tears filled my eyes when my little girl asked me why
    Alyssa lies
*Oh Daddy, oh* Daddy tell me why
    Alyssa lies
While this song is sappy, it like a fair amount of country songs is trying to show people the consequences of Child Abuse and the importance of preventing it.

This is our Country - John Mellencamp
Well I can stand beside ideals I think are right
    and I can stand beside
the idea to stand and fight
I do believe there's a dream for everyone
    This is our country

    There's room enough here
    for science to live
    and there's room enough here
    for religion to forgive
    and try to understand
all the people of this land
    this is our country

From the east coast to the west coast
down the dixie highway back home
    this is our country

And poverty could be just another ugly thing
and bigotry would be seen only as obscene
and the ones who run this land
help the poor and common man
    this is our country

From the east coast to the west coast
down the dixie highway back home
    this is our country

    The dream is still alive
    someday it will come true
    and this country
it belongs to folks like me and you
so let the voice of freedom
    sing out through this land
    this is our country

From the east coast to the west coast
down the dixie highway back home
    this is our country
From the east coast to the west coast
down the dixie highway back home
    this is our country
This one is pretty famous for being in Ford commercials. This song celebrates the diversity of America.

There are other songs that are not part of the stereotype of country as truck-burns, women runs away and dog dies.

With the amount of talent it takes to write a country song these days, I could write one easily. I remember being at my friend's place and I started singing a country song I was making up on the spot. Something about my tractor, my dog, and working hard on the farm. Anyway, his girlfriend asked me what song it was and I told her it wasn't a song at all.

Country music sucks these days. It is becoming too mainstream with the singers wanting to be like rappers or pop-stars with the lifestyle. Sing about the country and then drive around in a Ferrari? Please. Give me Johnny Cash, Willy Nelson, and George Strait any day rather than the other stuff.

John Mellencamp is Americana, not country. Now, to be fair to you, Americana is a mix of country, folk, and rock (lighter stuff). But I definitely would not call Mellencamp country.

You don't need to be conservative to be country. Tim Mcgraw, one of the leading country singers, is a democrat. (So is Toby Keith, but he was a Bushocrat). Anyway, that is one of those borderline songs that are not considered to fit in any single camp.
