I'm so glad LT came back to improve on Spqr, which was as near perfect as you can get anyway. And would like to share a story about playing this mod that has ever since inspired me and I came to love RTW thru it.

Playing a Roman campaign with SPQR6, I was having a hard time ALL the time because of the fierce resistance of Rome's enemies, and the constant 'nail-biting' battles just to scratch out a gain here, or a region there...or just to defend myself. But finally, after many years of struggle I eliminated the Greeks at last and set my eyes to the east....

During all this time I had slowly and stealthily been building Legions back home in Italy and stationing them in 'strategic places' so as to be ready for the 'old men and women' of the Senate, who constantly bickered and denied me the glory I deserved for winning them so much territory. I figured, when at last they had pushed me too far, I would bring up my 6-8 Legions and crush them like a fly!

So I invaded what is now Turkey, confident in my forces and nearly unopposed by the weak Pontics who just wilted before me. I was at peace with the Seleucids, and figured I would consolidate a foothold there before I took them on.

Then, so many things happened at once I could hardly keep up with all that was going on! At last the Senate had gone too far and ordered me to commit suicide! Me, the greatest General they had ever known! So in anger I unleased my Legions on them in a furious attack to remove them from power.

But then, the crafty Seleucids, who must've sensed my plans for a long time, revealed plans of their own. From out of nowhere came army after army of Seleucids attacking me and betraying our alliance. I was hard pressed to hold them off, and being driven slowly back towards Mysia.

That's when I first discovered the REAL makeup of Lt's Senatorial Legions. Why I hadn't thought to check before I'll never know, but they were Praetorians!! They were slapping my Imperial Legions aside like irritating insects! My legions were running everywhere...to ships in harbor, to towns, to anything to get away from them!! But they came after me as well!

I had to let the Seleucids have Turkey, and pull Legions back from all over the Empire just to protect my cities in Italy. Ten years I fought them...chipping a piece off an army here, and a bit off there, until finally I beat them back into Latium. I can't even remember how many Legions died in that momentous fight for Supremacy over Rome, but it was nearly every one I had before I finally defeated their armies, seiged Rome, and dispensed with the sniveling bastards!

It's one campaign I'll never forget, and probably the most fun I ever had playing this game. So my hat's off to LT for this mod and how much fun it is to play! Welcome back!

    Ditto!

That sounds awesome! Myself, never made it far enough to dare take on Rome, had enough trouble dealing with everyone else, lol.

Well said and if u think u had a struggle with the Senate's Praetorians just wait for invading the British Isles I still remember my first failed attempt with three imperial legions back in version 6... I landed my legions and moved towards London... hit the turn button and hell broke through wave after wave of hardened brits with their chariots and arrows exterminated my legions and killed my generals and heir... had to retrieve what's left of my troops back to mainland... The only way to deal with the senate is to equip your guys with machine-guns.

The only way to deal with the Britains is to use nuclear weapons.

I also love the battle against the Gladiator army right at the start.

Ive never invaded britain, or fought rome or anything. In fact I have only fought the following factions:

    Gaul
    Carthage
    Germania
    Macedon
    Greece

I guess thats it. I did fight one army of egyptians once on an ambitious egypt campaign. But now Im just waiting for v6.3 to come and I'll start up a new campaign and this time remember the garison script every time or load a savegame. My current games are all messed up.

ditto. and i havent even beaten one of them yet, except for the greeks who were taken care of by macedon. i tried matching my conquests to historcal times, which was relatively easy at first, but as distnces grew this became harder and harder, to the point where i over extended myself. Now two african provinces are in roman rebel hands as well as one in Spain. i think ill start a new campaign once 6.3 is out with garrison script and 4TPY activated, and see if the extra time can help me out.

ack are praetorians really that hard? I was gonna hold off on building imperial legionary barracks until after I took Rome (you know, to role play) but if they're beating the snot out of your imperial legions, I wonder if it's possible to beat them with republican legions.

rep me if you like my posts, and it's highly likely you'll get some back
