The Mobile Cross of Doom

Ok so I have just recently seen that cross on wheel's wiht elite gaurds from the HRE crusading army. I have neever been able to recruit that and was wondering where / how you get it and if it's any good. It certainly looks good!

It can only be recruited as a Merc when on Crusade, either that or it is available with some mods.

You can recruit it somewhere in Italy (Most of the time northern Italy) obviously when you are crusading. I hear its pretty good because any units that are close to the cross are "inspired" and wont run away in battle

I know Venice has a recruitable unit like that.I don't think it's a cross but it's similar in the fact that its an object of some kind on wheels .Other than that I think it's only a crusade unit as someone already said.....unless you play custom battles, then I think all the catholic factions get it.

my bad I think I was thinking of a mod but in vanilla 1.1 the Papacy gets it in custom battles for sure.Venice and Milan get carroccio (sp?) standards in custom matches.Even with the mobile cross of doom I dunno how much of an advantage it adds.I played one game with 20 units of religious fanatics v 19 units of religious fanatics and 1 cross and the 19 units lost even though in the end I even had the cross' guards fighting off people (it was that insane).It's supposed to raise morale but I haven't seen anything different when I use it, although I will admit I haven't really gone and tested it 100% either so maybe it works and I just had bad match ups :hmmm:.

The standard with a cross is a mercenary unit recruitable only while crusading.
The italian factions (at least Milan and Venice) can recruit similar ones, Carioccio standards (sp?).
I dont think any of them raises morale though.

It adds a helot of advantage when teamed up with seargant spearmen

The Great Cross / Carroccio Standard (Built by Venice or Milan) are identicle in effect, both have the effect 'standard' (raises morale of nearby units) and the Cross/Standard's gaurds themselves have locked morale and never run.

Recruiting a Great Cross, it's a crusade mercenary unit so you need a crusading general. Check Sicily, Sicily almost always has one in the merc pool, or perhaps Rome/Southern Italy.

How much difference does it really make? Last time I fought against Milan, they still crumbled and ran against my Longbows.

Yeah I went back as Sicily, and was able to recruit it as a mercenary. I guess you just have to be near the pope area and hope that it comes up on the roster :-P

Or for those of you who play as the pope, when you attack the other catholic nations do they not attack back? lol or do you just excommunicate yourself.

It is used as a focal point,if playing defensive,keep your spearmen in the front of it.
