Good news guys. Things look like we'll soon be able to create our very own viking units from scratch!

Very interesting. Maybe we should find out which units should be reskinned, and which should be modeled

Er, seriously though, I don't understand why we have to hack things like this. Why can't CA just release the stupid tools? Like, why did Vercingetorix make the idx extractor and not CA? CA knows how to do it, and if they don't want us to be able to modify the game then why don't they send cease and desist letters to the modders who figure out how to mod the game? They won't help us and they won't stop us. I really don't understand any of this. Glad we'll soon be able to make new models though - it really is about time...

Well, I guess one of the reasons is the price of dev time and the lack of funding for modding support (at least with Activision and initially with SEGA), although that seems to have changed.

I understood that there was some issue with the custom .MESH format (which is used because of better performance or something) contains proprietary code that would be problematic to publically release or something, I don't know.

Anyway, whilst I agree that it would be better if CA released, any progress on this is very good news.
