Default Lands to Conquer 2.1 Using Vista

Hi all...new here, 1st post, but I see that Lusted is a mod here so perhaps I can get some help here with Lands to Conquer than anywhere else.

I just got a new rig and (against my better judgment) it has Vista loaded onto it. I want to use the Lands to Conquer 2.1 mod as I had used on my old rig with XP. I can download and unpack the mod and everything appears to be fine, but when I utilize it, none of the mods features appear to have 'stuck.' I've tried this multiple times and it has resulted in the same situation...everything appears to be fine but the mod doesn't stick.

Anyone know what's up? Thanks very much for any and all help.

Moved to tech help, as it involves vista.

    Maybe someone here can help.

    Good luck.

Open up the Medieval II folder and find the "landstoconquer.cfg" file. Open it with notepad. Inside you will probably see the following inside "mod = landstoconquer [video]". You need to put your cursor directly before "[video]" and press enter so that that part of the text goes to the next line. Save and load the game.

It should work now, let me know if it does or doesn't. I've had to deal with a few vista v. MTW2 issues myself

Awesome, thanks so much man. I can't tell you how frustrating this is. I've been reloading this thread all day waiting for a response. Gotta wait until I get home to try it, though. Will post again with my results.

BTW, how'd you figure this out?

By hours and hours and hourse of looking through files and forums. Finally by describing my problem in a post, Lusted pointed out that the [video] should start on a new line rather than follow behind one... of course I have no idea why Vista changes this file that way, though I imagine it's because the vista notepad is set up differntly form XP's.

Heh, sounds just like my method, which luckily landed me here. I'll be crossing my fingers with one hand and altering the file with the other this evening.

On a similar note, would this problem cause a further problem wth saved games? I copied over a saved game of mine from my old machine but don't have any obvious place to put it on the new one. Once I fix the mod, will that problem be fixed too?

No, if this is the problem saved games would not be affected.

OK, I followed the instructions and was able to get '[video]' to the next line, but then I could not save the file...it gave me a 'cannot create error' and a 'make sure the file path is correct.' Did I do something wrong? Should I be renaming it or something?

Right-click on the MTW2 main folder and then click properties and then security. You have to allow all users to modify files before you can save it -- another Vista difference...

Thanks so much man, I appreciate it. This whole high security stance of Vista is becoming a real thorn in my side

No problem... The differences between XP and Vista aren't so annoying now. It just takes some getting used to.

That's a nice way to say it.

One more thing, if someone knows the answer...I have a saved game that I want to continue playing on this new machine. Its a Lands to Conquer game, but on the new Vista machine there is no save game folder. Where is it supposed to go to be usable?

OK, this would be funny now if it wasn't so frustrating. I changed the security settings in the proper folder and applied the change in the .cfg file. Now the desktop icon for the mod has disappeared from my desktop. Why did it disappear? How do I get it back? :hmmm:Thanks again for all the help.

Don't know. But just paste the icon from the folder back onto your desktop and see what happens. This didn't happen to me....

Alright, just to be certain, where is the icon located in the folder?

Nevermind, I finally got it to work. Damn, that felt good.
