Easy way to beat the Mongols

I've recently been thinking, and so far I haven't seen this but, could you give a province to the mongols with a diplomat. Make it a province in the middle of your territory far away from their armies, and then destroy it in the same term. Theoretically this would eliminate the Mongols as a faction making them all rebels. Has anyone tried this yet?

don't do it in the same turn otherwise they'd just horde again like some factions in BI.. You have to do it twice I believe

Excellent strategy (if it works).

My other idea was to just rush their first city (usually Antioch) and crush them at the gates.

My second strategy was, before they find their first city, to pick off their units one by one with two or three of your own stacks.

I've kicked the Mongols out of the first city and they still remained. They werent destroyed until I killed the last general.

I don't think you can give land unless the receiving faction has at least one province :hmmm:.I tried giving the timurids land so they'd pwn the Mongols but the option was ghosted so all I could do was give them money

Doesnt work, if a horde faction looses its last territory youll just get this message

"A people in flight" and they will go back to horde mode and will regain thier horde units

Only 2 ideas that could work

I nevere finished the game with English, but I was moving on some 12 Mongol stacks with my own 10, and some 20/30 assasins

It certanly takes time, but those are the only ways.

Prefered is ambushing them in woods, and/or when they move in colons atacking the head of their colon by ratio 2:1, that results with more casualties on theire side.

(this was my first campaign med/med, so I don't know if it works on hard/hard. I like wining before Mongols/Timurid apear in the first place)

YOur better off destroying their armies 1 by one, generaly by letting them siege you.

I posted a way to beat the mongols in a previous post: Mongols war.
And i really advice you to fight them in open fields if you want to enjoy a real tough and funny fight.
Don't try to find a way to evade them, just fight them to the death!

P.s.
i know it is not easy and perhaps people who don't play total war games since the begin could have a difficult time trying to defeat them, in that case, like someone before me said, try to kill them when they besiege you or with an ambush fight or in a bridge fight.

I've been playing total war games since shogun so I'm no noob, but I also enjoy trying to find loopholes so this seemed like an interesting challenge

Same here.

Like in Medieval (I), when you destroyed some fraction they would spring out of the ground again in some 15 turns. Having destroyed some 5 of them, that gave you fighting revolutions (up to 3 or more stacks in youre deep rear) every 3 turns.
So the idea was to give them islands, leaving them 'alive' and bancrupted.

Giving teritory to the Pope and provoking the crusade against the Mongols could work?
I have to try that.

Meeting them in force, having large teritory and strong walls, (assasins also) + crusade for turning the tide (if you are not so strong)?

Sher Khan made a good guide on defeating the Mongols if you are playing Turks (Though I guess you could make it work for the english too) which involves taking your archers back of the lines, so the Mongol HA cant reach them without going through the field of stakes, it works pretty well.

Someone said that archers on the top of the hill (protected by infantry araund the hill) works just fine.

I also play as England. Looking at your stats, you have high casualties, almost 1 to 1.

I worked out a strategy where I can take a single stack in any terrain easy. Sometimes I take 2 stacks with one. My ratio is 2 to 1 and 3 to 1 casualty ratio.

Most important is the mix of troops. I place archers in a single line and place stakes. This gives me a solid defense line against their heavy cavelry. Then I place 2 spear units at the flanks along with heavy infantry. Cavelry units behind. The idea is to let them attack you, I concentrate my archer fire only on cavelry archer units and then on any other cavelry.

Then I switch archer fire on infantry and attack with all my heavy infantry. Cavelry is used to run down routing units. That is the only reason why I have cavelry, without them you can have victory, but too many Mongol units rout and you don't get a good kill ratio.

The only time it gets difficult is when 2 stack attack, and one of them comes from behind or from the side. In that case I make a formation of heavy infantry mixed with spear men as front lines, and use archers from behind. I still win but with higher casualties.

yeomen archers 6 to 7 units.
spearmen 4 units.
cavalry 2 units plus general bodyguards.
the rest heavy infantry.

Strategy: When they first show up, don't occupy the farthest eastern territories. if they don't come into immediate contact with you, they tend to dilly-dally around, allowing you time to prepare. Pick a defensible river, and put a strong army with loads of support on the bridge(s). (Iasi is where I made my stand). Many times, they'll come right up to you, but choose to simply go around rather than fight a costly bridge battle. This keeps them out of your territory, and causes them to disperse their armies as they go conquering elswhere.

Tactis: In open battles, high ground is definately an advantage. The mongols are VERY archer-heavy, and so must you be. You need to have enough armoured spearmen to counter their heavy cav, a bit of your own cav to chase down the routers, and loads of archers and seige to counter their archers. I find that if I'm on high ground with a line of infantry in front, they tend not to charge me, (on VH), so it turns into a battle of arrows. With the high ground, loads of archers, a ribault, and a catapult or two, you're guaranteed a nice victory.

As aformentioned, make use of rivers when you can. Bridges give you a massive advantage by packing their army into a nice tight group for your archers and catapults to decimate.

Also, AMBUSH!! After their armies had dispersed a bit conquering large areas of russia and northern europe, I was able to ambush a full stack army with two family members and no less than 6 units of heavy cav. MY Sicilian army had a merc. grand ribault, a merc. rocket launcher, and a catapult, plus loads of archers, an arquebus, spearmen and cavalry. Using the seige and archers in a tremendous barrage, fighting off a few of their heavy cav with my infantry, and launching a couple of well-timed cavalry charges, I was able to liquidate their entire army in a matter of minutes with less than 100 casualties of my own. Though the forces were well matched, the enormity of the slaughter earned me a "site of famous battle" marker!

A mass of Dvor or Mamluk archers with skirmisher turned off on a hill can do serious damage to their army with shooting and then charge in with AP weapons. Idealy you want to be defending on a hill with either stakes or spears schiltrom to blunt their charges.
